I listened to DJ & PK this morning and they interviewed Jim Owczarski, beat writer for the Milwaukee Bucks. I'm thinking cool, I'm sure they'll talk to him at least a little bit about Sam Merrill (you know the local kid who was just drafted by the team).

Wow was I wrong!! 20 minutes of dialog, they did not bring his name up AT ALL! Mr. Owczarski mentioned Sam once (on his own), briefly saying "a guy you guys know pretty well" with no follow-up from DJ or PK

I'm sick of this sh*it! I like 1280 but they never talk about USU unless one of our players gets arrested our university president (allegedly) makes racest comments! Why are they our flagship radio station if they don't give us coverage?

No way? That's super lame. I've always thought DJ and PK were the worst radio personalities we have in the state. Not really close. I remember a few years back when we were in the WAC, DJ was on the TV on Selection Sunday talking about the bracket and he pulls up one quadrant with 4 teams, USU, Air Force, and two others. He says, "And look who we have in this bracket, Air Force!"

I've always thought he was just a little b**** since then.

How much interest do you think is in Sammy, when of course the Jazz are playing the Bucks tonight ? I would think the fan interest is in those that will play with the game on the line,

1280 is fine of course those two guys do not talk all that much about USU. Who do you think will cover USU, that can be heard past Wellsville let alone pay anything for the contract ?

That's a lame excuse, 1280 is not the Weber State flagship (or even an affiliate). KSL talks 90% BYU, Kall 700 talks about the Utes at least 80% of the time. Is it too much to ask for USU's flagship to talk Aggies 10% of the time?

That argument aside, a born-and-raised basketball player from the state of Utah was just drafted (and gets playing time for) an east coast NBA team (an occurrence that rarely ever happens). You have their beat writer on your sports radio show for 20 minutes, why wouldn't you talk about that Utah player? It's so stupid, the guy was even prepared to talk about him!!

I just look at the coverage of another local pro, Tony Finau. I mean take 30-45 second and have a conversation about potential. Listeners would have interest in that, but that would require more work than skimming a box score and looking at the standings.

The way I look at it is if USU was not on the zone, USU fans is SLC would not be able to even hear anything about the school, I doubt the Buck would be calling to Logan to discuss the game with the Jazz..

I've never understood the love for 1280 on here. I already went back and forth about it a few days ago, but it is weird people have no problem with us being broadcasted on a station that is far more focused on our rivals than us by a broadcaster that promotes our enemies more than he promotes us. We are the little brothers as long as we stay on 1280.

Those two (I can't express myself without swearing) clowns need to take drugs. Maybe they’d be interesting to listen to then. Some of the lamest sports talk I’ve ever heard. One of them tries really hard to be funny but he fails just as bad as the name of their show fails trying to be edgy and hip.

Monson sounds like he just woke up from an anesthesia nap every time he talks and has less personality then Amazon’s Alexa. At least Alexa will rip a fart if you ask her and then suggest other ways of asking her to fart again. That’s better content than any of them have ever produced.

1280 is a JOKE all around. You cant even get the station in Logan to work 80% of time, only on the app does it work.

Then it rarely gives USU any time or pub. Even last year with Love in 1st Round of NFL and Sam in NBA Draft, they don't say much of anything about it. TIME TO GO BACK TO 610, I know I'll get all the, but...but...but.... 1280 Hasn't helped us 1 bit the past 3 years, if so SHOW me where and how? Scotty tries a little bit, but I don't think he's that admired their.

From what I understand, if Cache Valley Radio group had made a bid more in line with what the broadcast is actually worth, we wouldn't be having this conversation and we would still be forced to listen to Al Lewis screaming about officials rather than calling the game.

I'm assuming that Utah State and Learfield would rather have a local station be the flagship, but the lost potential revenue became too great to continue with the status quo.

That is another problem with it that I didn't even bring up in the thread the other day. I have family that lives in Cache Valley and they have constantly complained about 1280 not working right when 610 always worked in Logan.

And good point about 1280 not helping us. People countered my arguments by saying "Scotty G would lose his job and the ratings would tank if he talked about USU more." Well wasn't that a major point of getting into bed with 1280, so they would talk about us more? I thought it was supposed to help our Wasatch Front outreach. It was an argument for it at the time.

I definitely understand a lot of the frustrations people have with 1280, and I share a lot of those. Especially when it comes to clowns like DJ and PK. But anyone who is mad that the radio rights changed hands should be mad at CV Media Group for not being willing to improve their broadcasts and try to be competitive. The flagship change had more to do with CV Media Group coming short than it did 1280 wowing.

The crazy thing is @ScottyGZone is the program director - he's the boss and he still doesn't give us much time! On his show, on the rare occasion he does bring up an Aggie topic, Hans Olsen immediately changes the subject to talk about BYU.

i've been away from utah for a few years now, but aggie sports interest was pretty low between ogden and spanish fork, where most utahns live and work and listen to the radio. sucks, but it is what it is.

Meh. This feels like an overreaction. Nobody cares about Sam Merrill but us, and we are a relatively small percentage of their listeners. The vast majority of their listeners were listening for stuff on the Jazz. It would have been nice if they had brought it up, but whatever. What difference does it make?

Based on what metric? I have many friends and family members who are either BYU or Utah fans. None of them are ever offended by a little USU talk. Usually, they're curious as to what's going on up in Logan because amongst the three D1 programs in the state, the media never talks about them. Utah fans tune out if you talk BYU and vice versa (not USU).
