I don’t think Bryce Hamilton played?
They seem to have our number - TJ knows Craig well

No surprise here. UNLV always has the talent to beat anyone, but they’re too stupid to beat anyone consistently. That’s my only note for unlv since we’ve been in the league.

Re: My hopes for UNLV improving to a Q2 dashed
Bingo, UNLV was missing their best player Hamilton for this game. UNLV shot poorly, Nevada shot lights out. IF Hamilton plays second game I think UNLV has a chance to win. Even though he was off against us it took a concerted effort and allowed other guys room to make plays.SpectrumMagic wrote: ↑January 31st, 2021, 9:18 pmI don’t think Bryce Hamilton played?

Anyone know why Hamilton was out?

Looks like maybe the 2nd game was postponed. I don’t see any scores and it’s not listed on CBS Sports.

Re: My hopes for UNLV improving to a Q2 dashed
You guys had a clunker against Vegas and lost a close game on the road..It happens..However, I am not at all impressed with UNLV. Nevada has lost 5 conference games, 4 on the road, by a total of 21 points..Vegas lost to a team picked near the bottom of the conference by 29 points..
Nevada did shoot very well but UNLV has a fairly small roster. They have very little depth. The Pack bench scored 39 of the 89 points. Nevada has won every game against Bryce Hamilton has played against them..This is 7 in a row for the Pack. Nevada has handled UNLV for a decade now.
Of course, UNLV could rise up and win tomorrow as upsets happen all the time..
But the point is..Your loss to UNLV is a bad one.
Nevada didn't win by a fluke..

Yeah unlv isn't a good team this year. I'd focus on beating Boise State along with taking care of business against Nevada.

Wasn’t UNLV down two starters?nvspuds wrote: ↑February 1st, 2021, 8:52 pmYou guys had a clunker against Vegas and lost a close game on the road..It happens..However, I am not at all impressed with UNLV. The point is, UNR and USU have two games left. Let’s see how it goes.

Re: My hopes for UNLV improving to a Q2 dashed
If history is any guide USU will sweep..Nevada is in a bit of a rebuild and rarely wins in Logan even with good teams...
My point was some here were shocked by the outcome calling a loss to Nevada an embarrassment. The margin was surprising but not the win.
You have a good team and I respect what you have done this year but the loss against Vegas was a bad one..

Re: My hopes for UNLV improving to a Q2 dashed
The loss to UNLV will not be the determining factor in USU winning the conference championship unless the Aggies drop another game to a team not named BSU. If USU splits with the Broncos and otherwise holds serve the Aggies will likely do no worse than tie for the championship That along with two wins in the conference tourney will be enough for an at-large bid. I realize that seems like a tall order. But right now the Aggies control their own destiny unlike CSU and SDS.nvspuds wrote: ↑February 1st, 2021, 9:20 pmIf history is any guide USU will sweep..Nevada is in a bit of a rebuild and rarely wins in Logan even with good teams...

Re: My hopes for UNLV improving to a Q2 dashed
Meh. Yes, the UNLV loss was a bad one (Q3 loss) but one that will be meaningless unless USU drops another game to an also-ran (Wyoming, Fresno or UNR). That most certainly could happen, so there’s no room for error. The UNLV loss is even meaningless as to USU’s matchup with BSU. The Aggies need to at least split the two games. Three losses will win or share the conference championship unless BSU does something remarkable in San Diego.
As you already know, and records being the same, the key to a better conference seeding results from beating the better teams rather than losing to the poorer ones.

Re: My hopes for UNLV improving to a Q2 dashed
I want shocked UNLV lost to Nevada, and I believe USU loss to UNLV was a bad one. However, I still contend UNLV
isn't a terrible team at this point and could have beaten Nevada and they nearly did, without their best player. UNLV up by 5 with 5 or 6 minutes left in the second half, then the guy who was replacing Hamilton gets turnovers and misses all sorts of shots. If USU sees UNLV in the tourney it will not be an easy out. But the last two years we've had games that were not easy outs which I think prepped us to win the championships.

Re: My hopes for UNLV improving to a Q2 dashed
I do not think UNLV is terrible either..
I was commenting on the post that suggested that losing to NV was an 'embarrassment' for UNLV.
The Pack is in a bit of a rebuild (and look out next season) but they are not a team that should be a source of embarrassment because they beat some team..

Re: My hopes for UNLV improving to a Q2 dashed
Thanks for the clarification spuds, I always enjoy your comments on the board.
Next year will be really interesting, the entire league could potentially not lose any players and only add players. This would be an interesting scenario and I might expect that the standings would be similar. However, there will be a few players who go pro, such as Queta or Alston, in which case it may negatively affect a few teams and bring USU and BSU down the ladder a bit. I guess it depends which coach can develop the players that they already have. In that scenario I won't bet against Craig Smith.
