Anderson and 3's

Post by flying_scotsman2.0 » February 19th, 2021, 12:23 pm

It seems Anderson always hits a big 3 down the stretch of important games to put as ahead, but we end up losing every one of those games.

I don't care about my argument to go look this up, but it's something I've noticed this season. Someone needs to do the footwork for me. I've gotten conditioned to expect a loss if he hits a big 3 in the last 10 minutes of the game. Against Boise in the first game, he hit that big 3 for us to go up 4, I believe. Then a minute later we were down like 5 and never recovered.

Despite this weird trend that I've noticed, I don't know that there is a player on the team I'd rather have take a 3 at the end of the game. Ashworth maybe, and Miller has also had a good year shooting threes.

Anyway, there are some weird random thoughts to pass your Friday a little easier.

I don't know what his 3 pt. % is, but he does seem to make some big shots especially in the 2nd half of games. Quite honestly he should be getting 5 more minutes of game of playing time in my opinion.

He is shooting 39% in conference play from 3. He needs to play more, especially on a team that struggles shooting the 3.

He had two huge 3's in the 2020 conference championship against SDSU.

We did win that one game last year that he hit two big threes in a row in. Some other dude hit a big shot in that game as well.

We need his 3's and everything else. He adds a big body that is not easily backed down, he adds a proficient ball handler to the court to bring the ball down if needed, he is willing to bang inside and get put backs ala Bean, but above all else I believe he is our most talented offensive player. He can face up and hit a shot from 3 and he can also post you up and score inside with either hand. He has a nice touch around the hoop which Queta sometimes lacks and he can shoot over people which our guards struggle with.

I have never understood coach Smith's use of him (or lack thereof) and the short leash he seemed to be on last year.

I would say that he's the most versatile offensive player. But I'm 100% with you... his short leash and lack of utilization often leaves me scratching my head.

Anderson definitely deserves more playing time and we need him more than ever given that Worster is out.

Anderson would get more minutes if he played better defense. He can guard down low, but gets beat by wings who are quick. With that being said, we could sure use him and need him to step up.

Coach Smith has always valued defense over offense. And will just leave it at that.

It’s a trend I noticed this season. Yeah, last season was a different story.

I’m not saying defense isn’t important, but I’ve never seen a team that scores zero points win a game.
