Friend of mine in Madison sent this to me this morning. Thought I'd share it.

Watching the Bucks game now. Merrill has got in during meaningful minutes for the first time since the season opener. Played some good defense and got a nice steal, but missed the layup and also bricked a 3. Good to see him in there though.

And wow about Zion. Any chance to watch the Pelicans, I suggest you take it. The league is going to belong to him in a few years.

Sam had a nifty fast break layup at the end of the 3rd quarter.

Played minutes in a game when it counted. Scored 2 points, was +2 when on the floor. So long as he keeps showing he won't hurt the team, I think they'll keep giving him minutes like this from time to time. That should help him build confidence and things should start to come together for him.

This was his best game as a pro. Not many steals are straight up like his in the second quarter. He is doing good things and working his way into the rotation.

Completely agree that last night was Sam's best NBA game, despite getting a couple weak fouls called on him. Love that he contested a Zion shot at the rim without getting posterized or committing a foul.

Coach Bud will not play guys he sees as defensive liabilities. Seeing rotation minutes on a Bud team, even shorthanded, is a great sign. Bud didn't play Tim Hardaway Jr. for months because of defensive concerns when he first came to the Hawks.

I think it is awesome that he was getting some good minutes in a close game. Two of the three fouls were really weak. His drive to the hoop for a layup was pretty sweet.

Here are Sam's possessions from the other night. Saves a bad pass to him with hustle but leaves the 3 a little short, gets a steal but misses a heavily contested layup on the other end, plays good D but gets called for a foul on the rebound but it easily should have gone the other way as he was actually being wrapped up, again plays good D but gets whistled for a soft reach in, and then the great steal and layup.

you can hear somebody yell "oh yeah Sam" or something on his layup. That rebound foul was a horrible call.
