13=13 ('21-'22 Roster. Updated 5/24)
(Updated 4/19/2021)
Let's look at the roster next season. It seems there's a chance we have quite a few spots open. Until we hear otherwise, I am going to assume Queta is going pro, Fonso is moving on (per Aggies22), & Karwowski is graduating & moving on. That leaves us with 3 spots available.
Then we have these questions: Will Brock Miller's back allow him to keep playing? Will Bairstow, McChesney, or Shulga transfer? Given the situation I have to think we'll be big players in the transfer market.
(For those who don't know, there's a long standing "13=13" joke around here that goes way back.)
Scholarships:
1. Justin Bean F, SR
2. Brock Miller G, SR
3. Sean Bairstow G, JR
4. Trevin Dorius C, JR
5. Steven Ashworth G, SO
6. Max Shulga G, SO
7. Szymon Zapala C, SO
8. Cade Potter F, FR
9. Brandon Horvath F, SR
10. RJ Eytle-Rock, G, SR
11. Muzamil Ameer Hamoda, G, FR
12. Rylan Jones, G, SO
13. Norbert Thilessen, F, FR
Walk-ons
1. Matthew Wickizer F, SO
2. Landon Brenchley G, FR
3. Travis Wagstaff F, SO
Moving on:
1. Neemias Queta C, JR
2. Fonso Anderson F, SR
3. Kuba Karwowski C, SR
4. Rollie Worster G, SO
5. Marco Anthony G, SR
6. Liam McChesney, F, SO

Re: 13=13
Maybe one of the walk ons will get a scholarship? But it seems to be that we will have several spots open. Going to be an interesting spring.

Re: 13=13
Unless the situation has changed, Dorius won't take a scholarship. I don't know about Stastny or Wickizer, but given that we basically never saw them on the court, I'm going to say those scholarships are safe from them for the time being.
Given some of the insider info already shared on the boards, I'm going to assume that Shulga, Liam, and Bairstow are gone. This sucks because I'd anticipated significant contributions out of at least 2 of them, but given their lack of PT earned, maybe it's just an opportunity to bring in some bigger contributors.

I've also heard Brock Miller has every intention of returning next season.

I hope Miller can stay healthy and play well next year. He seems like a good guy and the hate he gets from USU fans online is dumb. Hope to see him succeed.

Re: 13=13
Bairstow is a mess that may have eventually paid off like Brito. I have no idea. I haven't been a Bairstow fan and won't cry if he is gone. Shulga is a mystery. He seems like someone with some talent. I see a bigger role for him next year if he continues to improve. I am not encouraged by Liam like most people. I hope to be proven wrong. I doubt he stays healthy enough to play a whole season.

Re: 13=13
I hope Liam sticks around. He could be an x-factor. He may not pan out (or be injury prone) but you just don't get players with his mix of length, athleticism, and skill very often. It's worth giving him an opportunity to prove what he can do. He hasn't had that yet.
Where does Landon Brenchley fit in. Isn't he expected to be back for next season (returned from his mission)? I thought he was a walk-on but we already have 3 walk-ons and is that 13=13 thing apply to walk-ons too?

I would assume he will replace one of the walk ons.

Re: 13=13
Just looking at the projected guys coming back next year - which of them do you go to with the game on the line? Which one is going to take that final shot? Which one is going to break down a defense and score? Which one is going to will his team to victory when nobody else seems to be able to score or do anything? The Aggies need some help...... desperately.

Re: 13=13
we need nearly 5 above average players to come in and based off our previous recruiting we will be lucky to get 1-2 that actually see the floor. Next year could be VERY rough.

Re: 13=13
None of the walk-ons have to leave for Landon Brenchley to join the team next year. There is no set roster limit in college hoops just a scholarship restriction of 13.slcagg wrote: ↑March 23rd, 2021, 10:31 amNo 13 is scholarship.AGGIEinIOWA wrote: ↑March 23rd, 2021, 10:10 amI hope Liam sticks around. I wouldn’t worry too about that. When 2% of the fans say he’s not a good shooter, the other 98% come rushing to his defense.thegreendalegelf wrote:I hope Miller can stay healthy and play well next year. Considering what we have coming back if we have a game on the line that comes down to a final shot I will consider that a win in itself.Yossarian wrote: ↑March 23rd, 2021, 10:34 amJust looking at the projected guys coming back next year - which of them do you go to with the game on the line? New to bring in a guard who can penetrate and create. Rollie is OK at it and needs to get better to be successful in the postseason

To bad about Shulga. He is very young and still got some playing time and looks like just adjusting to speed and strength of the game he could be a good player. Is this due to wanting to go back to Europe? From all accounts the team was very close and got along really well so I assume the players meshed with coaching staff as well?

With Ashworth, Worster, Anthony, Bean, and Miller we have a solid core coming back. We need to add a good guard that can shoot and break down a defense. Be also nice to get another wing and a center.

Re: 13=13
1. I hate to think that we need to allocate an available scholly to yet another guard but I think we do. A scoring guard. I anticipate that Marco will see an increased or equal role (as he should for his defense alone) so it would be nice to have a guard that can create his own shot with pull up jumpers or drives to compliment Marco's offense which is more of a methodical back you down in the paint game. Adding a scoring guard will also allow for the possibility of having more offensively minded combos of guards when Worster and Ashworth take the court.
2. After that we need help at the 3 and 4. Losing Anderson and Queta = losing a lot of size on the court. Yes, we have Dorius and Zapala which should be serviceable for 1 big body on the court as needed but we desperately need a couple of 6-6' to 6'-9" athletic guys who can bang, rebound, and score. Bean can't play 40 min. a game and we really don't have a Fonz type player left on the roster to spell him.
3. And finally, one of the open spots needs to go to the best shooter we can find. McChesney and Potter may be able to shoulder some of this but that is asking an awful lot of guys that have little to no experience at this level. Even at full health, Miller needs to be coming off the bench and playing far less minutes. We can play great team defense all game but we have to be able to put some pressure on the opponent to stop us at the other end too. This daring our team to shoot from the outside is not making anyone work that hard on D and it's demoralizing to our own team to watch missed shot after wide open missed shot.

I assume the trio of Shulga, Bairstow and possibly Liam would be looking to transfer down for PT, right? It's not like they've lit the world on fire here (although Shulga and Bairstow have shown potential...Liam just hasn't seen the court).

Recruiting is going to be a huge challenge. I don't think we need a roster overhaul and our wish list might be a bit lengthy. I've seen lists on here that if they came true, everyone, with maybe the exception of Bean would come off the bench. We just need a couple of the right pieces. The transfer portal # is up to 758 and growing daily. Just because we narrowly missed on a couple last year doesn't mean we won't have better luck this year. Way to early for gloom and doom.

Yep Miller has far more fans on this board than detractors and there are not really many actual haters. I have been accused of being a hater because I said he shouldn't have the green light he has and would prefer he came off the bench.2004AG wrote: ↑March 23rd, 2021, 10:42 amI wouldn’t worry too about that. Of course he will. Where else would he go and be able to collect a scholarship, play meaningful minutes, shoot as much as he wants while being generally bad at basketball? The dude has it great, no way he's giving that up!
