So if/when we hire Stan Johnson, does Marble come here

Just hire Stan Johnson and call it a day.ineptimusprime wrote: βMarch 31st, 2021, 12:02 pm
The guy you all thought was going P5 from NAU is heading to LMU along with Marble.
Seems Stan Johnson can recruit the transfer portal. May be unlikely he comes here considering how hard heβs recruiting for LMU right now.
Hopefully thereβs still some good players left in the portal by the time Hartwell stops playing paddy-cake with his college buddies and gets a hire made.
Unfortunately, the fact that he is killing recruiting the portal right now for LMU suggests he may not actually be a candidate, except in lists on this message board. I agree though, I think heβd be awesome here.
Wyoming's former head coach (the one that recruited Marble to UW) is now an assistant at Loyola Marymount.ineptimusprime wrote: βMarch 31st, 2021, 11:04 am

Not saying he is a candidate but Iβd bet the ncaa would clear them to move if we were to hire someone in that situation.ineptimusprime wrote: βMarch 31st, 2021, 12:37 pmUnfortunately, the fact that he is killing recruiting the portal right now for LMU suggests he may not actually be a candidate, except in lists on this message board. Actually Rylan Jones is the player of Chris Jones who was on staff there. He used to be on staff here under Stew. I haven't heard for sure what is happening with his job or his son.SectionBAggie wrote: βApril 6th, 2021, 7:30 pm
I believe this is the son of the assistant coach at Utah that got his job so that he'd bring his son along. If he is in the portal, it's an interesting dynamic.
Actually there were two assistant coaches with sons on the team. Jones was one and Martinez was the other. This is the son of the other coach. I assume this means Craig isnβt retaining his dad.aggies1 wrote:Actually Rylan Jones is the player of Chris Jones who was on staff there. He used to be on staff here under Stew. They would have to hire his dad as an assistant.OrangeCountyAggie wrote: βApril 6th, 2021, 10:08 pmProbably because he doesn't fit into Smith's "culture." But seriously is he worth USU pursuing?
I agree my Aggie brother.
I know it isn't popular to say anything nice about Musselman on here, but the dude has flat out mastered the transfer portal. Other than one and done Moses Moody, three of the top 4 scorers on the Elite 8 Arkansas team this past season were transfers. I know many on here don't like it, but this is just the new way things operate. Hopefully Odom is a good recruiter not with high school talent, but getting guys in the portal.
You know what they say about outliers. It may all be legit but regardless of where Eric M has been he gets the best transfers and those stops include Reno, NV and Arkansas.Aggie formerly in Hawaii wrote: βApril 9th, 2021, 10:46 amI know it isn't popular to say anything nice about Musselman on here, but the dude has flat out mastered the transfer portal. Fayetteville Arkansas is surprisingly really nice.SpectrumMagic wrote: βApril 9th, 2021, 11:03 amYou know what they say about outliers. Arkansas is actually a really underrated state. Little Rock is a cool town and Hot Springs, Arkansas is a fun resort town.slcagg wrote: βApril 9th, 2021, 11:20 amFayetteville Arkansas is surprisingly really nice.SpectrumMagic wrote: βApril 9th, 2021, 11:03 amYou know what they say about outliers. 100%. North Arkansas is very nice. And fayetteville is in that bentonville (Walmart headquarters) and that area is super nice.Aggie formerly in Hawaii wrote: βApril 9th, 2021, 11:43 amArkansas is actually a really underrated state. And I've never been to a game there, but I hear the game experience at Bud Walton Arena when Arkansas is good is one of the better venues for a game in college basketball.slcagg wrote: βApril 9th, 2021, 11:45 am100%. I've had this same thought. Both HS and JC.OrangeCountyAggie wrote: βApril 9th, 2021, 1:24 pmIt's interesting, with all the attention being on the transfer portal, maybe the smart approach would be to focus heavily on high school talent. You might be able to find some gems that were otherwise overlooked. Same thing for junior colleges - just a thought.
The Juco route served Stew very well in the early 00's.slcagg wrote: βApril 9th, 2021, 1:28 pmI've had this same thought. It's like what Sean Connery says in The Untouchables "If you don't want to be given a bad apple, don't go to the vendor, go straight to the tree."slcagg wrote: βApril 9th, 2021, 1:28 pmI've had this same thought.
