This is great news, thanks 22! The question we should be asking though, is coach Smith and his staff actively recruiting some of these guys (on the down-low), or are some of USU's current players shopping their services behind the scenes to see if coach Smith will open up a spot for them? Or neither. Either way, it would be interesting to know what is really happening behind the scenes.

That is great Marco is coming back! He was the player on the team I was most worried about moving on after this. Actually it is pretty impressive if nobody leaves this year of all years. The transfer portal is as big as ever, no requirement to sit out a year and your coach moves on. In 2018 with more restrictions we had a mass exodus.

Great news, we have a solid returning group. Bring in a solid coach and 2-3 tranfers and we will be in good shape.

I wonder how much the “koby mcewen” factor is in play? They don’t want to make a decision too soon and have it backfire. Also the fact that although this is a young team, it’s still a team that went through this process successfully just a few years prior. I feel like that’s gotta give the team hope that it’ll likely be ok.

Great news! And great for him if he sticks what that decision... We know why he came to USU, and I don't think a reasonable person would fault him for leaving. I have no hard feelings with any of the players whatever they end up doing. But I am very excited and happy to hear that this is where his head is at currently.

At the end of the day, I don't think any of the players are taking this lightly. No doubt they spend way more time and energy pouring their hearts into this sort of a decision than anyone else. Stay or leave (please STAY!), I wish all of them nothing but the best.

What happens if a player enters the portal, but decides he wants to come back, is the team required to bring him back and keep him on scholarship? Or once they enter the transfer portal the scholarship is void and we would have to be offered again.

I think there is a deadline for when they have to exit the portal if they want to have that scholarship be guaranteed. I think its the end of each semester. I'm probably wrong but I think I heard something about that with respect to football players in the transfer portal.

Alright, I've moved Ashworth to the "staying" category. Obviously things could change if the guys aren't thrilled with the hire, but with that change, is this now accurate as we sit here today to your knowledge?

Hartwell also has mentioned that Miller has been a great leader as well. I would assume others as well.

Transfer portal is up to 1134. Just glancing at things the past few days there seems to be a higher ratio of guys transferring from P6 schools. It's a carousel in that when a player transfers to School A, and the guy who thinks he's going to lose PT at School A transfers to School B. And on and on.

Just a quick count there are now 1136 of which 234 have landed somewhere else, so roughly 900 still looking. 35 have found homes at JCs or non D1 schools.

Also to note, it is quite risky this year for players to enter the transfer portal with no firm landing spot. Seniors last year have the option to come back and play an additional year. So the # of Seniors coming back for another year will take up a chunk of those spots. So either those who aren't good enough or incoming freshman/JC guys will miss out.

I posted this elsewhere. But Utah has jones expected back and the unlv transfer. If they both go there they should expect less playing time.
