Randy Rahe
I heard from a pretty creditable source that Randy Rahe is working his way up the short list. I guess some of Hartwell top targets turned him down and Jerry Bovee is pushing hard for Rahe.
I would not hate it.
Source level, 21, one lower than 22.

Re: Randy Rahe
Rahe would be fine. Not good or great. There's no way he takes USU to new heights, but neither would he tank the program.
I'd be pretty underwhelmed.

Re: Randy Rahe
Don’t think Rahe is meltdown worthy. Would be muuuuuuuuuch better than hiring a fired P5 assistant.
But this is close enough to the line that I’m wondering if this is a well-executed and believable April fool’s joke.

Re: Randy Rahe
Looking at some of the other potential candidates out there, he's not that far off. His teams have been at the top of his conference for the last 15 years or so. I'm curious as to why he's never been able to step up a weight class.
BTW, does anyone else think that 1-big leagues should just kill their conference tournaments? It's dumb to go through a 30 game regular season, win the league and then lose ONE game in the conference tourney and have your season destroyed. If I were a coach in that league I'd be asking "what's the point?"
Or maybe shorten it to just the top 4 teams with the regular season champ hosting.

Re: Randy Rahe
I was sort of banking on April Fools when I saw this thread. If Rahe is even talked to about the opening then Hartwell's pool of candidates is a hell of a lot different than what we think it is.

My sauce tells me it's Larry Krystkowiak and he's getting a $1.3 million signing bonus paid by some bald guy

Re: Randy Rahe
The ironic thing is that Randy Rahe probably would have became our coach if we had our lost our basketball coach to Utah the last time Utah had an opening and we were all worried about it. In other words, with Stew back in 2004. I do think the difference is that time, we were worried about losing Stew to Utah, Utah, and Utah, while this time, we accepted we would lose Smith to someone but wanted it to be anyone but Utah.

Very insightful post Orange, very insightful and logical. Dripping with reason actually as it's so tough to get jumped by MIGHTY DOG in the league tournament.OrangeCountyAggie wrote: ↑April 1st, 2021, 9:54 amLooking at some of the other potential candidates out there, he's not that far off.
