Re: Tim Miles
I would be okay with Tim, but I like the idea of Konklin or Johnson or the UMBC coach (spacing on name) better. I also think we should reach out to Doug Gottlieb.

Re: Tim Miles
Not a fan of Tim Miles for USU. There are worse candidates, but there are better candidates. He seems like a "safe" pick with a fairly high floor, but also a lower ceiling.
If the goal is to have a fine basketball team that is always somewhere in the top half of the MWC and get to the tourney occasionally, Miles could be the guy.
If the goal is to be competing regularly for conference titles and NCAA Tournament bids, he's not likely the guy.

Re: Tim Miles
There are so many things to look for in a coach, but we are in a new situation that I think deserves attention.
I want a coach who has dealt with Covid issues - cancellations, rescheduling, testing, etc. I don't want it to be new again.
I want a coach who has experienced the "free year" from the NCAA as he dealt with comings, goings, roster questions, etc. I don't want it to be new again.
I want a coach who has dealt with the transfer portal at the magnitude of the last couple of years. I don't want it to be new again.
In summary, I want a coach that was on the bench last year. This spring is sooooo different than 3 years ago when Miles was still working.
I guess that puts me on the something other than Tim Miles listing.

Coincidentally, I just heard Tim Miles ON the Doug Gottlieb show.hipsterdoofus21 wrote: ↑April 2nd, 2021, 10:56 amI would be okay with Tim, but I like the idea of Konklin or Johnson or the UMBC coach (spacing on name) better. I also think we should reach out to Doug Gottlieb.

Re: Tim Miles
Tim already recruiting him as an assistant coach? I would be a-okay with a Miles hire so long as he hires assistants that have been in the game this year and familiar with the portal and recruitingaggies22 wrote: ↑April 2nd, 2021, 11:35 amCoincidentally, I just heard Tim Miles ON the Doug Gottlieb show.hipsterdoofus21 wrote: ↑April 2nd, 2021, 10:56 amI would be okay with Tim, but I like the idea of Konklin or Johnson or the UMBC coach (spacing on name) better. Re: Tim Miles
Interesting. I think I felt Smith was a B hire. I'd give him an A- now.

Re: Tim Miles
Smith was a pleasant surprise but not someone I had even heard about. I would have picked Otzelberger over Smith. In fact he was CSU's second choice.
He did a good job here. Instilling some energy and teamwork.

Tim Miles
Smith outperformed both Nedved and Otz, which I like both. Smith brought some sorely needed energy and was a great fit. He brought a style that fit our personnel and I am grateful for his time at USU. I think he’ll re-energize the Ute fan base too.Donman wrote:Smith was a pleasant surprise but not someone I had even heard about. I would have picked Otzelberger over Smith. I’d be happy with Tim Miles. There are others I’d be happy with as well but definitely wouldn’t he disappointed if it was Miles.

Re: Tim Miles
If they hire Tim Miles he better bring along some assistants who have worked with a mid major final 4 team. A la Loyola chicago, butler, Gonzaga, Houston. They need to have the ability to recruit at a high level with limited resources.AGGIEinIOWA wrote:Smith outperformed both Nedved and Otz, which I like both. I am reminded about what Todd Orlando did as an assistant before he left Logan. Definitely needs to be a well connected and well supported by experienced staff if JH chooses a fired G5/P5 coach. I agree with the Covid asertion and transfer portal points made by sectionbAggie.
