Do we think the UMBC background checks from a few years ago missed that they were pedophiles or con artists, or is the assumption they may have become pedophiles or con artists in the intervening years while coaching at UMBC?

Can the assistant coaches recruit if they are waiting for a background check? I would assume that is a no. If so we should have been doing this check last week even if we were waiting on the umbc search.

I was just looking at UMBC's recent basketball history. Aki Thomas was the coach for 4 years before Odom. Thomas went 28-95. No surprise that he got canned. Odom came in and the next 5 years they've gone 97-60. Quite the turnaround. It looks like he knows what he's doing, so I'm more interested than concerned about what assistants he hires and what players he brings in his first year. I'd say he deserves at least one season to show what he can do. He's only been coach for like 10 days.

Yes it happens at every coaching change which lately seems like every 4-6 months. You would think some would not get worked up over it every time.
