Odd the bench? Who would be starting ahead of him? Can horvath play the 5? Doesn’t look like it to me.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑April 22nd, 2021, 3:23 pmIf Akin is added, I have to think someone either is already planning on leaving, or will be leaving if he is added. FWIW, someone who has spoken to Dan Akin says Odom is pushing hard to get Akin to USU, but Akin is skeptical of moving to Utah.
I think Akin is a good player and could help us, but personally it’s an addition that makes the most sense to me if a Dorius or a Zapala is leaving. I think the last two scholarships need to be used on a 1/2 and a 2/3, but that’s me. Odom has a better idea of what he needs though.
Height and weight of our bigs data
Bean 6'7" 210
McChesney 6'10" 185
Horvath 6'10" 210
Zapala 6'11" 240
Dorius 7' 240
Potter was 6'8" 220 out of HS
We could use a heavy big with experience.
It sounds as if he is not exactly jazzed about moving to Utah, so it may be a moot issue even if true that we have offered.

Re: The hopefully definitive 2021 transfer portal thread
I don’t know that we’ll be playing a true 5 most of the time. I have to assume Bean and Horvath will likely be the starting post players even though they are both really 4s.slcagg wrote: ↑April 22nd, 2021, 3:24 pmOdd the bench? You may be right but watching horvarth he doesn’t seem like he can hang with a solid center.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑April 22nd, 2021, 3:28 pmI don’t know that we’ll be playing a true 5 most of the time. Horvath seems overvalued here IMO. I hope I’m wrong and that’s after only watching 1 full game. I’ll go watch another and reassess.

The website is outdated and clunky, to the point I can't post a direct link to a particular video, but click on UMBC, then ON DEMAND, go to Men's Basketball, then select the Feb 7th game against Stony Brook for probably the best game featuring both Horvath and Eytle-Rock.

One more for Horvath, though this is from his junior season.

I've just gotta say, I really appreciate you sticking around on this board and the intel you provide. It's fun having someone who is familiar with this staff and these players from UMBC to give an informed perspective. Glad to have you around as an honorary Aggie fan!

Re: The hopefully definitive 2021 transfer portal thread
After watching more of these UMBC games, my first observation is that everything looks pretty ragged on both ends compared to what I’m used to seeing in MW games. I also hope we are done raiding the UMBC pantry (with due respect to Akin and Kennedy).
I really do like both Horvath and Eytle-Rock. Eytle-Rock is gonna do just fine in the MW, I think. Needs to improve his body and his handle a little, but he seems to improve significantly every year just looking at his numbers. I worry more about Horvath not translating quite as well, but I like what I saw. He definitely would have gotten pushed around by most of the bigs in our conference this year. Scrappy, tough player though. He and Bean will get along great. I liked seeing some of his 3 point shots finally dropping in that game with Stony Brook. I think hitting his threes and spacing the floor will be the biggest difference between him being just a passable MW player and a really good one.
We have been so spoiled with Queta. Like sooo spoiled. Very special player. For our UMBC friend that may not be as familiar with Queta, here’s a video of his beast mode game against Boise State this year:
That Umass-Lowell game was just painful. We’ve all been there though. Ouch.

Yesterday my brother was walking by the ARC on campus and saw a 5'11" ish black athlete walking to the Spectrum wearing USU basketball attire with the #30. Said he had an athletic build and was not a guy currently on the roster.

Hmmmm, interesting. Definitely doesn’t fit description of anyone in the roster...or of Eytle-Rock. I have shown him some of the various players in the portal that fit the description and I just showed him Minnett and he said Minnett has the closest resemblance to the person out of the ones I have shown him. Said the guy had a trimmed beard and short kinda frizzy/curly hair.

Re: The hopefully definitive 2021 transfer portal thread
I feel like the "USU basketball attire" donned by the team (and/or those officially affiliated with the team) is distinguishable from that available to the general public? I saw a dude walking across campus the other day that immediately stood out as 1) being quite tall (i'd guess 6'6" or 6'7") and 2) wearing distinctive "USU basketball attire". Obviously part of the program...no other explanation
I wish I could say that I had confirmation that it was anyone associated with the program, but I don't so that might shoot my whole premise to hell. The point is, I noticed his "gear" and recognized it as different from the gear available to "fans" of the program? (But if anyone knows about a tallish dude with flame-orange hair that is associated with the program, let me know! I'll then crow about it to establish a smidgen of credibility here, haha! Before you ask...No, it wasn't Gary Wilkinson. same color hair, but this guy wasn't quite so tall as Gary. Neither was it Sean Harris.)
