Henry is the 3rd of three full-time assistants at UMBC. Now that he has been announced we should see the other members of his staff announced soon.
Question: Where did Ashworth get that shirt from? His sister?

Recruiting this year is going to be very different. I certainly was antsy to get some information out, but I have calmed down and realized that there is a lot of talent out there that is trying to find a home. If we are patient and target the right players it could be very beneficial.

Is there some sort of transfer portal deadline for 2021? If so, do players have to submit their name by a certain date?

Dennis Dodd in this tweet referenced "with one week to go." Does that mean there's some sort of transfer portal deadline? If so, maybe it'll be easier to target players once the final list has been established? Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

That’s football. Dennis Dodd is football.
But I am sure the numbers for basketball are similar. There are a metric you-know-what ton of players in the portal. Many will just return to their original school.
I seriously don’t know how Smith whiffed in the portal. The math is so in favor of a school like USU. He must have been too picky or just real bad at it.

Re: The hopefully definitive 2021 transfer portal thread
the post just says that April 2021 has had a record number of student-athletes enter the transfer portal, and there's still a week left in the month. The portal never closes. players just have to get to a school before the semester starts to be eligible that semester or something like that.OrangeCountyAggie wrote: ↑April 22nd, 2021, 12:25 pmI assume there has to be a cutoff point sometime before the season starts?OrangeCountyAggie wrote: ↑April 22nd, 2021, 12:07 pm

Re: The hopefully definitive 2021 transfer portal thread
583 of the 1438 players in the portal have found homes. Some up, some down, some sideways. That leaves 855 still out there. How many of those are legitimate candidates for USU is anyone's guess but that's a lot to pick from.

855 candidates and USU has two open scholarships to fill. I like our odds.

Re: The hopefully definitive 2021 transfer portal thread
Seeing these numbers, I'm starting to agree with NVAggie. With that many players in the portal (at least several dozen of which would likely contribute at USU) the coaches certainly don't want to sit on their hands, but it might be worth being a bit choosy with who they offer.

FWIW, someone who has spoken to Dan Akin says Odom is pushing hard to get Akin to USU, but Akin is skeptical of moving to Utah.
I think Akin is a good player and could help us, but personally it’s an addition that makes the most sense to me if a Dorius or a Zapala is leaving. I think the last two scholarships need to be used on a 1/2 and a 2/3, but that’s me. Odom has a better idea of what he needs though.

Akin is in a tough spot where he could be a back-up on a good team that has his former coach that is 1000s of miles away, and the Aggies have a lot of young bigs that could eat up his playing time on top of us having Bean, Horvath, and Dorius.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑April 22nd, 2021, 2:27 pmhttps://www.basketballforum.com/threads ... t-15350745

I would put him as our third big in the rotation ahead of Dorius and Zapala. But with Horvath, Bean, Dorius, and Zapala, I think we already have depth in the post.SLB wrote: ↑April 22nd, 2021, 2:51 pmAkin is in a tough spot where he could be a back-up on a good team that has his former coach that is 1000s of miles away, and the Aggies have a lot of young bigs that could eat up his playing time on top of us having Bean, Horvath, and Dorius.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑April 22nd, 2021, 2:27 pmhttps://www.basketballforum.com/threads ... t-15350745

I have to think either Odom does not want to play a big rim-protecting 5 like Dorius, and/or does not believe Zapala is going to develop by next year, and/or Zapala or Dorius is moving on if Akin has been offered.
Akin is not a bad player if true, just a questionable fit with what I think are pretty glaring needs at the PG spot and on the wing.

I agree and after watching tape he is very athletic and strong. I know they are highlights but he is an athlete. I would be happy if we got him tbh.

Re: The hopefully definitive 2021 transfer portal thread
His athleticism at that spot would provide a skill set we don't really have at the moment but I agree, any marginal benefit from him taking backup big minutes from Dorius/Zapala/McChesney/Potter would pale in comparison from the benefit of adding talent at the guard and wing spots.Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑April 22nd, 2021, 3:10 pmUsing a scholarship on Akin if Dorius & Zapala are staying and having Horvath would be absolutely crazy.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑April 22nd, 2021, 2:27 pmhttps://www.basketballforum.com/threads ... t-15350745

Height and weight of our bigs data
Bean 6'7" 210
McChesney 6'10" 185
Horvath 6'10" 210
Zapala 6'11" 240
Dorius 7' 240
Potter was 6'8" 220 out of HS
We could use a heavy big with experience.

Bean and Akin combo would be cool to see.ThunderAggie wrote: ↑April 22nd, 2021, 3:06 pmSLB wrote: ↑April 22nd, 2021, 3:05 pmA lot of bigs that we have are lean which is why Odom is trying to add Akin.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑April 22nd, 2021, 2:59 pmI would put him as our third big in the rotation ahead of Dorius and Zapala.

If Akin is added, I have to think someone either is already planning on leaving, or will be leaving if he is added. Who I have no idea. But Akin is good enough to be the first big off the bench, and that would mean less PT for someone.SLB wrote: ↑April 22nd, 2021, 3:17 pmNot reallyRoy McAvoy wrote: ↑April 22nd, 2021, 3:10 pmUsing a scholarship on Akin if Dorius & Zapala are staying and having Horvath would be absolutely crazy.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑April 22nd, 2021, 2:27 pmhttps://www.basketballforum.com/threads ... t-15350745

It sounds as if he is not exactly jazzed about moving to Utah, so it may be a moot issue even if true that we have offered.
Potter seems to play on the perimeter in every highlight I’ve seen. McChesney is the same. More of a big guard like Bairstow, IMO.
