We are going to be fine
We are going to be fine
I know there are a lot of people leaving but that only gives the new coach and his staff more opportunities to do something with this team. As it looks right now Utah State Basketball is JUSTIN BEANS TEAM and I am completely ok with that. Just deserved to have the rock more this last season and his points per game went up! We have had a new coach for only a week, give it time and the positions will fill and the players will come! I am excited for what the future holds and what will come! FOOTBALL SEASON NEXT LETSSS GOOOOO

Re: We are going to be fine
I appreciate the optimism but we couldn’t even keep 2 guys who started the whole season, were projected starters next season, got to the dance and had a strong core returning, plus “fit in” with the local culture. And we’re going to replace them with better players?

I think everyone needs to be hitting their local gyms and getting shots up just in case we don’t field a team. Going to need some walk-ons and so this could be someone’s chance of living their dreams.

Re: We are going to be fine
Unless some serious magic happens in the transfer portal (doubtful), we’re going to be awful next year. And that’s ok.. We just experienced a very fun era of USU hoops and witnessed two of the greatest Aggies ever to play. This rebuild will take time.
With that being said, I love the hiring of Ryan Odom. It’ll take time, but we’ll be back.

We'll see if we'll be fine. Right now next year will be a rough season, but Odom still has time to bring in some good players.

Re: We are going to be fine
I think we are overestimating how much talent is leaving. Even if everyone returned but Queta, that’s a still a bottom half of the conference team.
Marco is a great defender and no threat offensively. Rollie is a ball dominant guard who shoots under 30 percent from 3 and turns it over a ton. He’ll get better and I wish he’d have come back but we aren’t losing guys we can’t replace.
Our biggest weakness was perimeter shooting and now Odom has spots and playing time to offer guys who might help there.
Next year was a rebuilding year either way. More work to do than maybe we thought but I’ll wait until I see who we bring in before I worry.

With the current transfer portal status I think next was the perfect reload year with a strong core. That’s quickly become a rebuild year that’s trending towards a complete reset year.

Re: We are going to be fine
True. It is about who Odom brings into the program to replace these guys. Until we hear names of guys coming in the fanbase is going to be restless. We haven't really heard much good news from a player perspective. Once we hear some good news, the morale on this board and in the fanbase will change. As of now, we have Queta going to the NBA and 2 other starters transferring. Just give us some good news Odom!Intermeddler wrote: ↑April 12th, 2021, 9:12 pmI think we are overestimating how much talent is leaving. Re: We are going to be fine
I don’t know if there is a day in recent memory where we’ve needed good news in re: to the basketball program more than we do today.
Let’s at least get these assistants announced today and a player committed by the end of the week.
And Odom, welcome to bigger boy college basketball. We are probably a little more demanding, needy, and emotionally unstable than the fans at UMBC.

I don't think it's unreasonable to expect at least to have a coaching staff named a week after your hiring.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑April 13th, 2021, 8:48 amI don’t know if there is a day in recent memory where we’ve needed good news in re: to the basketball program more than we do today.

And yes we are well overdue for some good news. Sports are all about momentum, on and off the court. Our current trajectory is circling a drain.
We were dumped 3 weeks ago, but that was ok because we found love again 10 days later and married an attractive suiter, only to have him quickly slip into a stained t-shirt and sweats before the rice even hit the ground.

Yeah, we just need some good news and in a hurry on the player front. There are lots of good players in the portal, it is time we start hearing of some of them coming to Utah State.hipsterdoofus21 wrote: ↑April 13th, 2021, 9:07 amI don't think it's unreasonable to expect at least to have a coaching staff named a week after your hiring.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑April 13th, 2021, 8:48 amI don’t know if there is a day in recent memory where we’ve needed good news in re: to the basketball program more than we do today.

I am hearing whispers about a pg in the portal from a blue blood school that is seriously considering USU.

I don't show a PG in the portal from a Blue Blood school....unless I don't understand the definition of blue blood...

When it has to do with kids choosing where to go to school the sources are never good until the kid commits, even if the source is the kid himself.

Re: We are going to be fine
As I was searching for who you might be alluding to I only found like 3 PG's from "blue blood" programs that have not committed to somewhere yet and he's one. As I was going through the list, Askew comes up first alphabetically and I immediately brushed that off as a possibility.
I was ready to guess Ques Glover from Florida or Jordan Goldwire from Duke (mainly because they were 2*-3* guys).

Re: We are going to be fine
The hand wringing is ridiculous around here. Chances were next year was going to be rough no matter what. Things never happen fast enough for us and we all freak out. Went through this with the football coach hire, his assistants, when we originally hired Smith, and now here we are again. I'll save my worrying and judgement until we get a few games in next year

Not sure how the source level works around here but my Nephew is close friends from HS with him. Says he is looking at Fresno, UCLA, Cal, Arizona State, and USU

Yeah, I don’t think we need to worry. It is fun to speculate on recruits and hash over rumors though isn’t it? At least that’s why I come on here.

Re: We are going to be fine
Yes and no. We still have time to bring in some good players, so yes the worrying is a bit premature (although you can't really blame fans on a message board when their team loses 3 starters). For all we know, the next two weeks Odom will hit home runs in the transfer portal and nobody will care about Worster or Anthony.GeoAg wrote: ↑April 13th, 2021, 10:20 amThe hand wringing is ridiculous around here. However, if we don't improve the talent level on this team you won't have to wait until a few games into next season. You can start worrying much sooner and just accept next year as a sunk cost season with the hope that Odom has a great 2022 recruiting class. Our current roster is a bottom half of the MW team.
rj eytle rock coming to Logan would do a lot to calm and encourage the fanbase right now.
