Utah I could see happening if Smith really is open to it on a home and home level.
I think Gonzaga only happens if we go to Spokane or happen to meet them in a neutral site tournament. They've reached the point they can schedule anyone, so doubt they would do a home and home with us.

Re: I hope that starting next season on the schedule
Per former assistant coach. "We have tried to schedule Gonzaga for the past three years."
An interesting paradox here, Teams from power conferences like Utah typically play "Sisters of the poor" - type teams in preseason knowing that the strength of their conference foes will build their NCAA tournament rankings.. With Gonzaga it's almost the opposite. Their conference has only 1-2 other strong teams year in and year out so the Zags have to build ranking in the preseason by playing top national teams. We were on the way to that category but now will have to see what happens in the next 3-4 years. About 10 years ago we missed the opportunity to play Gonzaga in Seattle one year and Salt Lake City the next because we refused to play a "home game" in SLC. Shortsighted IMHO.

Agreed. They need all the firepower before conference play that they can get before they run the buzzsaw through the church ball league.

Ironically, we last played both 4 seasons ago ('17-'18 season).

Because we were losing with Duryea, it is interesting that teams run away from us whenever we are good.

Yeah, the Gonzaga game was part of one of those odd tournaments where some games are played on campus. The game was not a result of negotiation between the two schools. I had been lobbying both ahools to play each other for 20 years and when it did happened I couldn't buy, beg, barrow or steal a ticket. The McCarthy center holds only 6K fans and my name isn't Stockton.

Re: I hope that starting next season on the schedule
I hope to start the season we have athletes in action and sisters of the poor or dii team. Last year we lost a couple of games early because we didn't know who we were, if we got those wins over VCU, South Dakota and BYU we would have been looking at a 7 seed and perhaps raised the conference NET rating enough to get a third team in.
I want Gonzaga and hurrah on the schedule but not to start the season.
And yes, I know what SLB meant.

Re: I hope that starting next season on the schedule
I have the feeling that next year striving for the toughest OOC schedule will not be as important and getting this made-over team to play together cohesively. I hope I am wrong but right now I see a 5th, 6th or 7th place MWC team.
