My grandparents went to Pacific, and it is a good school to work on a grad degree.

Re: Fonzo to Pacific
Good for him! He gave us two solid years and didn't go to Utah. He was a key part of the MWC Title Game last year.

Why did I think he'd already committed to Montana? Hopefully he can go and beat BYU for us next year.aggies22 wrote: ↑April 23rd, 2021, 4:21 pmI was hoping he was going to end up in the Big West, I think I even posted that somewhere. Good for Fonzo! Nice landing spot for Fonz. Improving team in a good conference. He gets at least 2 more shots to beat BYU-P.

I am happy for Fonz and wish him luck. I am bummed he didn’t stick around here though. Could have helped a lot next year.

Really? I didn't realize that. I guess that's how it goes when you don't give a $hit about byu and their opponents.Dwigt wrote: ↑April 23rd, 2021, 9:06 pmWCCaggies22 wrote: ↑April 23rd, 2021, 9:00 pmIs Pacific not in the Big West anymore?bigblue32 wrote: ↑April 23rd, 2021, 7:15 pmaggies22 wrote: ↑April 23rd, 2021, 4:21 pmI was hoping he was going to end up in the Big West, I think I even posted that somewhere. Re: Fonzo to Pacific
I think he is joking and poking fun of how he supposedly wanted to go closer to home yet chose somewhere far from it.
Reminds me of the jokes about Derek Fisher when he got out of his Jazz contract because of his daughter; "Fisher had to go to LA to be closer to his daughter's doctors in New York."
Not that these things are comparable. Derek Fisher was a sleazy guy. Good for Fonzo to find a place he feels comfortable with to end his college career. I will always hate Pacific for the 2005 Spectrum game, but it would be cool to have Mighty Mouse as a coach.

Re: Fonzo to Pacific
Maybe it’s more about more opportunities to play closer to home in conference games such as Portland and Gonzaga? And also about him doing all he could do here with his education?

Re: Fonzo to Pacific
There is one thing I never understood from this story. Derek Fisher never said that he wouldn't play again, nor did he say at the time "he had to only play in NYC"- he said he wanted to relocate to a team that had the right specialists to treat his daughter. TAggie formerly in Hawaii wrote: ↑April 24th, 2021, 10:44 pmI think he is joking and poking fun of how he supposedly wanted to go closer to home yet chose somewhere far from it.

If she remained in NYC and he then went to LA, I somewhat see where people are coming from, but there are also several daily flights from LAX to Kennedy (heaven forbid LaGuardia or Newark)- it's probably one of the more popular transcon flights.
Unfortunately I actually believe Jazz fans chanted "cancer" at Derek Fisher. Which is vile even if he did bend the truth to chase rings. I swear that the 2 if not 3 of the 3 teams within a couple of hours of Utah have serious class issues within the fanbase. The Jazz are constantly complained about, and Vegas Golden Knights fans are horrendous as well.
Dont get me wrong, I like the Jazz. But it always seems like it's something with some fans.

Re: Fonzo to Pacific
Derek Fisher went to the Lakers because Kobe was recruiting him to go back. His daughter was just used as the excuse to get out of the contract with the Jazz.Imakeitrain wrote: ↑April 25th, 2021, 10:13 amThere is one thing I never understood from this story. Yeah chanting "cancer" at him is lowbrow, but what Fisher did was a cheap move. He did that elsewhere too. He got out of his Dallas contract years later saying he was ready to retire to spend more time with his kids only to end up on OKC later that season for their playoff run.

Re: Fonzo to Pacific
Understood. But did she receive her treatment in LA? Honestly, I don’t know. Although Fischer did seem to be a ring chaser, if she went to LA for treatment I don’t feel like there is much of an argument against him- and I’m aware Huntsman Cancer Institute is very capable. But choosing a doctor is more than just capability.Aggie formerly in Hawaii wrote: ↑April 25th, 2021, 10:20 amDerek Fisher went to the Lakers because Kobe was recruiting him to go back. Re: Fonzo to Pacific
The argument against him is how he got out of his contract in his prime as a starter instead of at minimum asking for a trade so the Jazz could have got something in return. It was New York where his daughter got surgery and went through chemo. As far as seeing a regular specialist, yes SLC has not just great cancer specialists, but great eye specialists. The John A Moran Eye Center sees patients from all over the world.Imakeitrain wrote: ↑April 25th, 2021, 10:39 amUnderstood. But did she receive her treatment in LA? Honestly, I don’t know.
