Who won the trade?
The concept of this being a trade that someone made in the Portal thread was interesting to me so I thought it should be a poll. Who wins this trade?

Re: Who won the trade?
I think our incoming beats what we lost to Utah. It's hard for me to group Fonz in with the Utah transfers though. He's a graduate transfer and I hope he enjoys success at his new home.

Re: Who won the trade?
I think Worster has the stuff to be really good, and he's young. I don't know much about Jones. Eytle Rock and Horvath seem good, but it's hard to lose to young player who can provide a long term foundation for a team. In the end, time can only answer this question.

In regards to eligibility things worked out pretty even.BigBlueBlood wrote: ↑May 7th, 2021, 2:01 pmI think Worster has the stuff to be really good, and he's young. I don't know much about Jones. Horvath and Fonz both have 1 year left
The Rock and Marco have 2
Jonesy has 3
Rollie has 4
You can either look at it as we lost one year of eligibility in total ...... or we gained one year of experience in total. For our success this coming season I'd say we came out ahead.

Well, we will know in a year, but I am at least hopeful we will be good next year!AGGIEinIOWA wrote: ↑May 7th, 2021, 2:30 pmIn regards to eligibility things worked out pretty even.BigBlueBlood wrote: ↑May 7th, 2021, 2:01 pmI think Worster has the stuff to be really good, and he's young. The interesting question of next offseason will be whether Bean, Miller, and Eytle-Rock will use their extra COVID year of eligibility, or will plan to call it quits and/or move on to a grad program at another school or the pros!
We could have anywhere from one to four open scholarships next year due to graduation (assuming no transfers). Coach Dixon’s comment on his recent interview with Ajay and Frandsen was that an unnamed returning player wanted “one more ring” before he was done, which stuck out to me. You can also look at the number of ‘22 offers we have already made.
Reading between the lines, my guess is that we will be seeing Bean and Miller’s last season at USU this next year, so let’s enjoy the hell out of it!

Re: Who won the trade?
Well with Thelissen and the second round pick I hear they are throwing in, we DEFINITELY won the trade.

My favorite post from the Ute board about the “trade.”

Re: Who won the trade?
I would have liked to keep Fonz and Worster. I wish Fonz well and hope he succeeds. Worster and Marco are going to have a harder time. I'm not saying they won't do alright but I think they have a low ceiling in the pac12.

Re: Who won the trade?
I'm not there on the Jones-Worster situation yet. I like that Odom brought 2 all conference players with him and I love Norbert Thelissen. I was pretty high on Worster's upside and wasn't impressed with Jones last year. Had we had Worster healthy against Boise, I believe we are regular season MW champs.
I definitely hope to be wrong and see Jones do great things at USU. This will be my last thread that is negative towards Jones though. He is now an Aggie and Worster is playing for the enemy.

Re: Who won the trade?
Agreed. I have always liked Worster, but have always worried about his quickness. When we played teams with really quick guards he struggled. Then against TTech, who had quick AND physical guards, he was lost. Jones appears to be quicker and faster.

Re: Who won the trade?
If I were an outsider and only saw Worster when he played hurt, or against TTech, I would have said the same things you said against Jones. Not fair, right? Well, Jones played last season with nagging injuries that slowed him down. He was sensational in HS, and really, really good at the U before his injuries slowed him down.Aggie formerly in Hawaii wrote: ↑May 7th, 2021, 10:04 pmI'm not there on the Jones-Worster situation yet. That is excellent wordplay from whatever random Ute said that. I didn't realize they had a basketball fan forum (I thought you needed basketball fans for that), but I almost want to head over just so I can give that person a thumbs up of some sort.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑May 7th, 2021, 7:42 pmMy favorite post from the Ute board about the “trade.”

You have no IDEA the effort it takes to figure out their mess of a board if you've never been there. Best to take the pass at this point before you even try.Real Life Aggie wrote: ↑May 8th, 2021, 1:59 pmThat is excellent wordplay from whatever random Ute said that. Re: Who won the trade?
I wondered if it was kind of sour grapes from Rylan because of the Worster transfer, but then realized that he attended Logan high and his dad coached at USU for a few years. I still do kinda hope there is some sour grapes for some reason, maybe because I like watching players with that chip on their shoulder. Anyway, I’m glad that he will be coming up to USU and I hope he loves it here as much as I did.

Re: Who won the trade?
This is some good insight. I wonder how his recovery is going and if we will be back to 100% for the season. If the aggies get the player that played his freshman year in the Pac 12 he could be a real difference maker for the Aggies.mcaggie1 wrote: ↑May 8th, 2021, 8:53 amIf I were an outsider and only saw Worster when he played hurt, or against TTech, I would have said the same things you said against Jones. Not to mention they get to play in the Spectrum and enjoy the atmosphere that it is. The renovated Huntsman center is really nice with amenities etc, but does not compare to the atmosphere in the spectrum.sammyhagar wrote: ↑May 8th, 2021, 5:17 pmI will tell you who won the trade....... thats easy.

Re: Who won the trade?
At this point it looks like the trade is basically Marco/Rollie for Jones/Thelissen. The other free agent signings (portal) and draft pics (HS signings) all have to stand on their own merits. Regarding the 2 for 2 trade, I think it's debatable and will take a couple years to know for sure but I definitely don't think the Aggies got short changed. Rylan is the playmaking point guard that is perfect for setting up a shooter like Thelissen and both should thrive in Odom's offense. Marco and Rollie on the other hand bring the Utes the defense and toughness they often lacked. I think a decent trade for both teams.
TBH I think you could trott out our 5 new guys (Jones, ER, Z, Bert, Horvath) as a starting line-up and we'd compete in most games. Throw in the fact that Bean and Miller will likely start in place of Z and Bert and we can bring in Shulga, Ashworth, Bairstow, McBuckets, Dorius, Zapala..... and I think we have a nice group for this year. Very excited to see what Odom and his staff can get out of this bunch.

Re: Who won the trade?
Those are big words when you haven't seen most of them play a game and most of our other guys were bench players. We basically just know what we have with Bean. Everyone else is a mystery at this point.
