Re: 13 = 13 SOLVED!!
I think our style the last few years focused on Queta and as such that center position was the key to our defense. Our guards would funnel everything into the middle by design and that produces a lot of action and pressure on that center. There’s timing and positioning to figure out as well as just getting used to the speed of D1. Zapala was obviously not at the level of Queta but at least Dorius was used to the speed and had a lot of time within the offense. I’m not giving up yet on Zapala. If he can’t produce anything this year by the end of the season then I think we know. Right now he still gets benefit of the doubt.ineptimusprime wrote:I honestly hope everyone else stays, but I wouldn’t be too upset if Zapala decided to go. I don’t think it bodes well for him that he couldn’t play over Dorius, but he was a true freshman and definitely has room to improve. He needs to get the fouls and TO problems fixed.BLUERUFiO wrote: ↑May 14th, 2021, 7:16 pmI just think Bairstow plays without the inner belief and toughness that he needs. As long as he is told to not dribble the ball, he could be fine as a spot up shooter. The counterargument is that Bairstow has actually at least been good or healthy enough to get rotation minutes.
The bumbling layup we all remember notwithstanding, my opinion remains Bairstow has the higher ceiling between Bairstow and McChesney, so I am glad he is staying.
Bairstow actually isn't even next on the list I've guys I'd be okay to see enter the portal.

Re: 13 = 13 SOLVED!!
Idk, if any insiders have better info, I'd love to hear it, but last year wasn't a good reflection on the actual capabilities of our other 5s. Dorius had a role to play: give Queta a break, and play hard. And he did those. But the gameplay wasn't designed around Dorius; it was designed around Queta. I think he's better than most people on this board seem to believe.
I'll believe the word on Zapala. Esp. under the tutelage of Queta for a year, or getting the opportunity to play against an elite big man in practice, I think he has lots of potential. We really can't judge his capabilities off a dozen garbage minutes.

I wish it was Miller. Coach Smith LOVED that guy. Why didn't Miller follow him to the U?

Yep, I agree—absolutely gets the benefit of the doubt. Again, I hope everyone else (including Zapala) stays.scotlandog wrote: ↑May 14th, 2021, 10:31 pmI think our style the last few years focused on Queta and as such that center position was the key to our defense. I think the additions of Hamoda and Thelissen are what were the primary factors in his decision.OrangeCountyAggie wrote: ↑May 15th, 2021, 2:12 amJust curious, why did it take so long? Does he have a prime landing spot?

Re: 13 = 13 SOLVED!!
So did the coaches take Thelissen or Jones’ commitment knowing we didn’t actually have room for one of them yet? If so, I wonder what the plan was if no one had transferred?aggies22 wrote: ↑May 15th, 2021, 7:29 amI think the additions of Hamoda and Thelissen are what were the primary factors in his decision.OrangeCountyAggie wrote: ↑May 15th, 2021, 2:12 amJust curious, why did it take so long? Honestly, I have no idea. Sorry bro. I doubt I would ever be told if someone was "counseled out."ineptimusprime wrote: ↑May 15th, 2021, 7:42 amSo did the coaches take Thelissen or Jones’ commitment knowing we didn’t actually have room for one of them yet? Good luck to Liam. I hope it pans out for him.

Thanks. Somehow I got the impression that the first year where he appeared in 5 games wasn't classified as a red shirt.

It was just a theory of mine. I have no way to prove whether or not the university has (or has not) already granted his medical redshirt.

Plus I’m hearing that Bairstow will get a chance to play wing with this staff— the idiotic point guard experiment is over.

Re: 13 = 13 SOLVED!!
This is so good to hear. I can see Sean really succeeding as a “3 and D” wing. It never made any sense to play him as a primary ballhandler at his size.AggiesForever wrote: ↑May 15th, 2021, 2:45 pmPlus I’m hearing that Bairstow will get a chance to play wing with this staff— the idiotic point guard experiment is over.
If he can keep shooting 3s at the percentage he is, and up his scoring and rebounding a little, he can be a really valuable contributor.

If he was a 3 and D guy, with no dribbling and no driving, I could see him being a good piece. I don’t remember, wasn’t his D just OK?ineptimusprime wrote: ↑May 15th, 2021, 2:51 pmThis is so good to hear. I can see Sean really succeeding as a “3 and D” wing. Re: 13 = 13 SOLVED!!
Where his defense was most effective was at the point if a 1-3-1 zone. Having his length at the top of the zone really caused problems for offenses.BLUERUFiO wrote: ↑May 15th, 2021, 3:27 pmIf he was a 3 and D guy, with no dribbling and no driving, I could see him being a good piece. But that would go against OCA's schtick. Pick one kid on each Aggie team and sh*t on them relentlessly over and over again until every single person on the board knows how much he despises them. After all, how dare he wear the Aggie uniform and not live up to his lofty standards??OKAggie wrote: ↑May 15th, 2021, 3:23 pmYou're on record. Re: 13 = 13 SOLVED!!
There was never a point last year where Sean was a point guard. He mostly played the 3 spot which is primarily for catching and shooting. He played the 2 sometimes when he was in with Brock. As we all know ball handling wasn't his best attribute.AggiesForever wrote: ↑May 15th, 2021, 2:45 pmPlus I’m hearing that Bairstow will get a chance to play wing with this staff— the idiotic point guard experiment is over.

Wow, drama queen! My "standards" include having a starting shooting guard that can, you know shoot? Maybe be mildly athletic and not give the ball over to the other team in crucial games? Are those expectations too lofty?stang wrote: ↑May 16th, 2021, 1:35 amBut that would go against OCA's schtick. BTW, I like Miller, he seems like a good dude. I will root for him and any athlete that dons an Aggie uniform. It makes for good fan board banter to fire back at people on here who try to convince everyone that Miller is a really good player. It's like, don't piss on my leg and tell me it's raining!
