Bean Sponsorship

Post by Aggie84025 » July 29th, 2021, 10:37 pm

It looks like Bean got his first sponsorship. Quite frankly it fits perfectly. Would have been cool if Brito was still on the team and they could have been sponsored together. Happy for Bean.

He's not wrong. The crisp bean burrito is still my go-to Mexican fast food option.

I worked at Taco Time in Brigham City when I was 16. We called crisp bean burritos "Waldos" and the crisp meat were "Reds".

the "reds" or crispy meat burrito came in a red bag, so that's what I figured, but the "waldos" came in a green bag so that one is confusing.

Found it! Check out the link and info below:
https://www.sweetwaternow.com/stop-tac ... %A2-waldo/
What is a “Waldo”?

The famous crisp bean burrito at TacoTime has been called the “Waldo” by many locals for many years. We had to get to the bottom of this mystery so we sat down with the local owners and here is what they said.

While managing one of the local stores in Rock Springs, owner Lee Staley’s staff kept confusing the meat burrito and the bean burrito in the kitchen. In order to improve the accuracy of orders, they named the bean burrito “Waldo” because Where’s Waldo was a popular culture icon at the time.

It is amazing how similar ‘meat’ and ‘bean’ sound through the drive-thru speaker or even in a noisy kitchen when being called back to the kitchen staff. Remember, if you want bean, just ask for a Waldo!

Des news say $1,000’s per year. They wanted to do it when Brito was here but back then it would have been a violation.

My wife always makes a point to say "crisp bean burrito" when ordering in the drivethrough. That "crisp" is what makes it clear, I guess. I'll tell her now that she can just order a bag of "Waldo's".

Isn't Maddox still in Brigham? I don't know anybody's grandma that would prefer Taco Time over Maddox (especially when either a Chuck-A-Rama or similar buffet style is not an option).

Possible unpopular opinion here but I think Maddox is just ok. I’ve never eaten there and then afterwards said “I’m glad I ate that”.

It's been a minute since I've eaten at Maddox, I seem to recall they do have good Bison and the good rolls. But otherwise not very memorable. I've had way better meals in Utah.

It is old people food. Between The Bluebird and Maddox, we have the old people covered. In fact - circling back to the original post, that would be a good opportunity for one of our RM seniors that has also taken a red-shirt year. They could be a paid spokesperson for the old people restaurants in the area.

To those of you bashing Maddox. A few weeks ago we tried to go there and the wait was 90 minutes. The place was packed, and not just with old people. We tried to get reservations, and they weren't taking them because they didn't have any more tables to reserve.

I think my favorite food item from anywhere is the shrimp steak at Maddox. You can buy their turkey steaks at local stores, but I really wish I could get my hands on a frozen pack of shrimp steaks...

I truly wish I had a business that was as bad as Maddox. As you pointed out there are a lot of people that must love mediocre food.

I always have m the Shrimp Steak. Never seen anything like it anywhere else.

You mean those of us who said upfront we knew it was an unpopular opinion? And does "bashing" really include saying that we're not impressed? Not once has someone said anything bad about their food, service, or quality.

Also, if you're there during a holiday, good luck. You gotta have a reservation.

Pretty sure the sink is the finest masterpiece of frozen dessert that has almost made me vomit though.

Speaking of unpopular opinions...cleaning the sink isn't even a top 5 ice cream option in Cache Valley *ducks*

Great news today of an Aggie Ice Cream/Fat Boy collaboration since we're way off topic.

What? I mean, I love Charlie's for the nostalgia and whatnot, but it's not above Angie's for ice cream.
