Kings sign Queta to a two-way contract

Post by rAggie » August 8th, 2021, 10:49 pm

This is great news for Queta. He will get plenty of opportunity to play as part of their G-League team and will likely get some time on the big squad too when they inevitably have injuries to their big men.

Does this mean only $75k unless he is called up for a certain number of days in the season?

The bad news is the Kings have absolutely stockpiled big men and Queta is behind a long list.

Richaun Holmes
Tristan Thompson
Alex Len
Damian Jones
Chimezie Metu
Marvin Bagley

Alex Len sucks. Marvin Bagley may likely soon be traded. I've never heard of Metu so that doesn't say much for how he plays. It basically comes down to Holmes, Jones and Thompson. We shall see. Regardless, a year of development could do Queta a lot of good even if it's in the G-league.

interesting that Queta is drafted 21 spots higher than Sam, but will most likely get paid WAY less.

As a Kings fan, I can tell you given how historically bad our defense was last year, I expect Queta to find his way into the regular rotation sooner rather than later. I just think they hedged their bets by bringing in Thompson and Len.

Holmes is a good player (although a bit undersized), Jones and Metu are just bench fodder. Queta is going to surpass most of them on the depth chart by the middle of the season, maybe sooner.

Kings need to sort out their roster. They have a mixed bag of talent, but the pieces don't fit.

Disappointed Queta didn’t get any guaranteed money. Kind of weird for a pick in the 30s to be signed to a two way.

The Kings’ roster makes zero sense. What a horribly run franchise.

It's just the first 30 draftees that get the guaranteed rookie contract right? Too bad he didn't get drafted by a real franchise in a position to give him guaranteed money, not the best luck. But he has a chance to prove himself and do something great in the next few months.

He likely needs a year or 2 to develop. The 2 way locks him up for 1 season. Not a bad deal for Queta, if the NBA doesn't pony up, he might get a real $ offer from the Euro leagues

It looks like they updated the two-way contract rules, and now all players on two-way contracts earn a flat rate of $462k, regardless of being in the G League or NBA.

https://ca.nba.com/news/nba-board-of-go ... f0z9dxmsut

"Two-Way Player Rules: For the 2021-22 season, each two-way player will be paid a flat salary equal to 50% of the minimum player salary applicable to a player with zero years of service. A player under a two-way contract will be permitted to be on the NBA team's active list for no more than 50 games during the regular season, with no limit on practices, workouts or other activities with the NBA team. In addition, there will be no deadline for signing two-way contracts with respect to the 2021-22 season, a change from the rule in the Collective Bargaining Agreement that prohibits teams from signing a player to a two-way contract after Jan. 15 of any season."

Thanks for sharing. Not a bad way to start for Queta.

Just something to sort of compare it to. The #32 pick just signed for a lot of money.

That is way better than the old rules where someone who was in the d league for the whole season made $75k. Thanks for setting us straight on the new rules.

Queta (not surprising to anyone) has been dominant in summer league. Here what they're saying about him in Sactown:

The minimum salary in the NBA for zero years of experience is about $900k. So Queta should make around $450k for the upcoming season.
