I've tried to tell you guys the conference hates us.
There is a part of me that would like to move to a different conference because of that fact.

Quick question, was the official who made the call on Bean the same that was on the baseline that didn't give the call to Bean?

Nope. Two separate refs.

No they were different. The official right in front of the bean drive swallowed his whistle on the drive and on the rebound. It was a different hero ref that came in from half court to call the foul on bean at the end, but he was not in position to make the call on the bean drive.

Doesn't appear that "being in position" is a concern of this particular ref.

These are not conference refs like they are in football, so this idea is thrown out the window. Plus, the conference benefits by us winning in the non conference.

The last call sucked and was a terrible call and should have never decided the game, but at the same time, we shot a lot more free throws than the Gaels.

Our defense in the second half was awful and Bean lost his man in the corner on several occasions. Plus, we were piss poor from 3 point range.

I KNOW that the conference would benefit from us doing well. BUT when it comes to Utah State, I'm not convinced the conference gives a $hit.

A lot of that was just the way the teams were playing. Saint Mary's was getting open/easy looks to the basket on their end but on defense they played extremely aggressive. There was a 5-6 minute stretch where we didn't get a basket off because they kept fouling with their aggressiveness. They made several buckets during the same stretch. The FT differential was warranted and had they not played so aggressively we would have replaced some of those FT's with shots.

I agree, looking at a stat sheet and seeing a FT margin discrepancy is not telling of ref issues.

One of the rules of officiating is don't fish in someone else's pond for a minnow. That's what he did. He didn't have a great look and the other official was right there. He used to be a really good official which includes officiating in Final Fours but he is getting older and puts himself in the game more than he should sometimes.

That is a great analogy. That was probably not his call to make and instead he inserted himself into the action. If I am another ref that was in position I would hate having the other ref come and make a call that was in my area.

The other part of that is that refs should take a lead from their colleagues. The contact on Bean was obvious and affected his shot and McCall had the exact same angle and didn't jump in. So not only did he not jump in on Bean getting fouled but he made the 2nd call against Bean having let the 1st one go either in agreement or deference to the other official. You either let them play or you don't and you either let the ref in position make both calls or jump in on both. What a cluster.
