Even last year I commented on how much I love his game. Don't like playing him, lol, but he's great.

Re: Roddy
He is a good player. He is so hard to defend because he has a good dribble and can shoot the 3. He also made some great passes out of the double team.

Re: Roddy
And because he is a pretty solid 255 pounds (no one can out muscle him). He would make an exceptional tight end or line backer in the NFL.Aggie84025 wrote: ↑January 13th, 2022, 1:36 pmHe is a good player. Though different games, I bet other teams thought the same thing about Sam. Doesn't matter if you play great defense, he's going to make his shot or get to the line

Re: Roddy
Well if you didn't like Roddy doing what he did to us, get ready because we're going to face other centers that are going to do the same thing-- 7-0 240 Orlando Robinson at Fresno State (19.5/8.3), 6-9 255 Graham Ike at Wyoming (19.5/8.4), 6-10 250 Nathan Mensah at San Diego State (7.8/7.8, but capable of going off), and the two headed player at Nevada, 7-0 245 Center Will Baker and 7-0 220 Forward Warren Washington (22 ppg between them). We are a team with no real center making any kind of contribution, and trying to combat that with what amounts to a 6-10 guard/forward playing center for us. We did well to come back against Colorado State with little to no 3-point shooting, only 4-18 (22 percent), but when crunch time came, CSU went to their big guy. Bean fouled out and we were toast. Unless we can recover our outside shooting, these other teams are going to go after us inside and when we lose Bean or Horvath to foul trouble, then what are we going to do?
So the key is we have to find our shooting touch. I don't think we're magically going to get Miller back this year, with his back being what it is. So who is going to step forward, besides Ashworth, and hit 35% or better from the 3 point line. I think Eytle-Rock has found his chi as more of a slasher, poster-upper. Maybe Bairstow? Maybe Shulga? Maybe Jones? That is the question on many Aggies lips!

Re: Roddy
Bean is over 50%. Horvath is over 45% After that, the three-point shooting drops off a cliff.AggiesForever wrote: ↑January 13th, 2022, 6:00 pmWell if you didn't like Roddy doing what he did to us, get ready because we're going to face other centers that are going to do the same thing-- Nathan Mensah at San Diego State, Orlando Robinson at Fresno State, Graham Ike at Wyoming, and the two headed player at Nevada, Center Will Baker and Forward Warren Washington. USU must recruit better shooters. As good as Bean is, I think it will be much more difficult to replace Horvath. A 6'10" guy that can shoot the three as well as he does, plus has the coordination and ability to bounce the ball and run at the same time. That is a rare find.

Re: Roddy
True, Yossarian, but both Bean and Horvath are going to be taken away by other teams. You can count on that. So who else could step up for us.
I agree, we need to be in the market for guys who are scorers. We have lots of role players already. We need a couple of scorers, not just shooters.

Re: Roddy
We could have our own version of Roddy. Rob Whaley Jr over at CSI is 6’5” 280lbs. Runs like a deer and jumps like Jardine. The system he plays in at CSI is not conducive to his game. I think he’d flourish in ours.

I didn’t mind it with Queta. He owned him! Like 5 blocks on him alone last time they played each other!Real Life Aggie wrote: ↑January 13th, 2022, 1:29 pmEven last year I commented on how much I love his game. Don't like playing him, lol, but he's great.

As bad as Roddy may continue to work us in future games, at least we’ll always have the sweet memories of Queta making him look like a child.stewusu98 wrote: ↑January 13th, 2022, 8:30 pmI didn’t mind it with Queta. Re: Roddy
And not as strong or lean as Roddy. Slower than Roddy too. I would have to see some more video but he might work. With the right diet and strength training program we could whip him into shape pretty quickly if he's disciplined.Pacobag wrote: ↑January 13th, 2022, 10:25 pmNo evidence of Jardine type hops in that video.hipsterdoofus21 wrote: ↑January 13th, 2022, 7:14 pmRob Whaley Jr over at CSI is 6’5” 280lbs. In hindsight the comparison to Jardine was a bad one, but he can definitely get up.Aggie in Boise wrote: ↑January 14th, 2022, 12:29 amAnd not as strong or lean as Roddy. Slower than Roddy too. Here's a link to a CSI team highlight reel that has some of his dunks.

Re: Roddy
I like his size. We need some big strong players especially when Bean leaves. We are lacking in size and strength.hipsterdoofus21 wrote: ↑January 14th, 2022, 9:35 amIn hindsight the comparison to Jardine was a bad one, but he can definitely get up.Aggie in Boise wrote: ↑January 14th, 2022, 12:29 amAnd not as strong or lean as Roddy. Re: Roddy
CSI's site doesn't list his weight but he's listed at 6'5" (also, when a college in Twin Falls can recruit more black athletes than a MWC school...). Looks like he's likely the son of Utah Jazz big by the same name.
