Re: Nevada
Ya, all those last minute losses sure were a gimme for those other teams.

Re: Nevada
Nevada is dangerous. They have 2 dynamic players that when on can take over a game with their playmaking on offense. They are not consistent, but very dangerous.

Re: Nevada
USU needs a couple of players to step up and consistently play up to their level of ability, namely Brandon Horvath, Steven Ashworth and Trevin Dorius. Horvath needs to start making 3's again, as well as jamming home all baskets attempted within 3 feet of the rim. Ashworth needs to recapture his 3-point shooting touch. He's done it all his life, we desperately need it now. And Dorius needs to figure out how to position himself so as to be an actual impediment going to the hoop for the opposing center, as well as grab an offensive rebound or two.
That is the thing I have noticed about this team. With this offensive set we're using, which looks like a game of "around the world" with at least three players out on the 3-point line, we're probably the worst offensive rebounding team in the conference. When a shot is put up it had better go in, because we have 3 guys immediately release and head down the court, leaving only two to get a rebound. And usually one of those is out of position. So we rarely get an offensive board.
This is why I don't like Justin Bean doing whatever it is he's doing out on the perimeter. He is our best rebounder by far, but he can't many offensive rebounds out on the 3-point line. And that's another reason his scoring has dropped. His game is cutting and cleaning up garbage. Hard to do that when you're setting picks for guys who are afraid to take, or can't hit a shot outside.
Oy vey!

Re: Nevada
That is very hard for him to do when he spends most of his time on the bench. The refs typically frown upon a player jumping off the bench and making it so our team has six players on the floor at the same time. This might be an unpopular opinion, but Dorius should have played more minutes in the Wyoming And Boise State games. Horvath looked like a toddler trying to guard their big men, but Coach Odom thought that was a better choice than Dorius. Dorius even drew a charge against the Wyoming big guy, but Horvath would just let the guy push him to the basket for an easy bucket over and over again.AggiesForever wrote: ↑January 22nd, 2022, 12:27 pmDorius needs to figure out how to position himself so as to be an actual impediment going to the hoop for the opposing center, as well as grab an offensive rebound or two.

Re: Nevada
In just looking at the conference only stats, Nevada and USU are essentially the same product. The one difference is the Pack has only played one road conference game. That came against AFA. NV is 2 and 2 at home with wins over NM and FSU. Home losses to Boise State and Wyoming.
You always hate to see home losses but since starting the season 1 and 4 the Pack has gone 8 and 3. BSU, WY and Kansas. All clearly better than the NV.
Still, the team is wildly inconsistent and despite being a horrible 3 point shooting team ( in conference) they are scoring at a good clip. The defense, or lack thereof, has been the problem.
I would not say the Pack is 'dangerous'. They have lot of road games ahead. They have an outside chance to finish in the top 5 and get a bye. However, that will take a lot of wins.
Now, supposedly, we actually have a home game against USU. I will believe that when I see it..Not holding my breath.
Anyhoo, The game against your lads may come down to match ups. Your two primary bigs can and will take the Pack bigs out to the perimeter to guard them. Baker can knockdown 3's at a healthy rate but he doesn't go out there much. Washington stays in the low post. Whichever team that figures out how to neutralize the opposing bigs probably wins.
Cambridge is in a nasty shooting slump but hopefully he will come out of it soon..

Re: Nevada
Yeah, you mean the same Dorius that was in on the last play when Ike went from the top of the key straight down the lane and laid it in for the game winner -- manhandling Dorius along the way. Dorius is simply to slow in his reactions for the game at this level. There's a reason why he is on the bench - offense is very limited and defense is often out of position.ususports wrote: ↑January 22nd, 2022, 1:13 pmThat is very hard for him to do when he spends most of his time on the bench. Hotvath’s line for the Wyoming game: 30 minutes played, 4 points, 2-9 shooting (0-4 on three point shots), 6 rebounds.tjensen_25 wrote: ↑January 22nd, 2022, 1:18 pmYeah, you mean the same Dorius that was in on the last play when Ike went from the top of the key straight down the lane and laid it in for the game winner -- manhandling Dorius along the way. Dorius: 11 minutes played, 2 points, 1-1 shooting, 5 rebounds.
I am not saying Dorius is a powerhouse without flaws, but his defense was still better than Horvath’s when playing against big men like Boise and Wyoming have, and Horvath was awful with offense in the Wyoming in particular.
