Dorius (hope I spelled that right)
Great game Aggies!
Question guys, I haven't been able to watch a ton this year. But recently got to watch. I feel like Dorius plays really well. I noticed Horvath seemed to struggle on both ends. Why not more time for Dorius? Am I missing something?

I’ve always been a fan, he plays hard and gives good minutes. He was HUGE tonight!

He was awesome tonight. He is really playing his role well. Not a great offensive player, but is a good defender, rebounder and can finish pretty well around the rim.

Re: Dorius (hope I spelled that right)
He can cause issues with spacing because he's not much of a threat outside of 6-8 feet. He's also not a guy that will allow you to switch much on defense. That being said, he had a good game, and is not a liability.

Re: Dorius (hope I spelled that right)
He doesn't have the best hands and he he gets the ball stripped too often when he brings it down to his waist, but I love his aggressiveness in attacking the basket. He acts like he wants to dunk everything. We haven't had a center like that since, what? Wilkinson? He's a big strong body that is effective within 6 feet of the basket on both ends of the floor.

Mr. Queta would like a word.Yossarian wrote: ↑January 27th, 2022, 12:26 amHe doesn't have the best hands and he he gets the ball stripped too often when he brings it down to his waist, but I love his aggressiveness in attacking the basket. Wilkinson dunking? He could barely get off the ground. I believe he holds the record among players over 6'-9" that were blocked by players 6'-0" and under. He did have a sweet baby hook game with either hand and used the glass like a pro though.

While athletically limited, i thought Wilkinson was aggressive in the post.

Re: Dorius (hope I spelled that right)
The alternative is Horvath commiting 5 turnovers (literally) by dribbling ball into the key and then politely offering the ball on a silver platter to his defender.
Re: Dorius (hope I spelled that right)
I haven’t watched every game so maybe I’m missing something. I see him catching pretty much everything thrown his way, including a lot of passes at his knees. I I think he has pretty good hands for a traditional big. A lot of his dunks are because of his ability to catch difficult passes.

Horvath really struggled with turnovers last night. Needs to improve on that.

This was one of the few things that frustrated me in this game. Horvath looked so soft. He couldn't hit a layup to save his life.Aggie84025 wrote: ↑January 27th, 2022, 8:21 amHorvath really struggled with turnovers last night. Needs to improve on that.

During the Duryea years I would have given both of my left testicles to have a big like Dorius. He played strong and had a hell of a game last night.

Re: Dorius (hope I spelled that right)
Dorius looks a lot more comfortable out there nowadays. Maybe he responds better to Odom compared to Smith and has more confidence as a result.
Being more comfortable would help catch more passes. Some younger players will struggle to catch passes at times because they are too uptight.

I was happy to see him finally just dunk that one at the end. He got fouled by Mensah on that dunk too but they never called it of course. Maybe he will start to realize that is what it is going to take for him to finish at the rim in this league.AggiePT wrote: ↑January 27th, 2022, 8:27 amThis was one of the few things that frustrated me in this game. Re: Dorius (hope I spelled that right)
Agreed. He showed some life and fire going up strong and dunking that one. He brings that ball low and it gets stolen all of the time. He needs to keep the ball high and attack the basket. This will draw more double-teams from which he can pass out of. He is a good passer when he isn't getting the ball taken from him.Aglicious wrote: ↑January 27th, 2022, 10:03 amI was happy to see him finally just dunk that one at the end. Re: Dorius (hope I spelled that right)
Dorius matches up well with other big centers. But the problem is, he is very slow and when there is 6'9" or 6' 8" center who is quick, Dorius can't handle it.

Re: Dorius (hope I spelled that right)
Whenever any of our team dribbles too much it is generally not a great sign for that possession. We are best when the ball is hot potato back and forth with other players cutting. When we go ISO or dribble a lot we seem have issues with getting the ball stolen.Aggie in Boise wrote: ↑January 27th, 2022, 11:22 amHe dribbles way too much.Yossarian wrote: ↑January 27th, 2022, 11:16 amHorvath does it a lot, too. When Bean is best, he is moving off-ball and slashing for hoops or assists. His moves to the paint and 10-foot shots are great. he is not a back-em down, or 1 on 1 blow by your man player like the SDSU guy was. He was very good when isolating.

GameFAQS can you put up a video of Mensa's first basket. It was right at the start of the game. I'd like to see where his heel is placed when he catches the ball.

I rewinded my DVR a coyle time looking at the same thing last night. It is close, but not close enough to call or overturn. It is definitely closer than Queta s was in the tournament that was called out of bounds

To me it looked like he was up on his toes, and that his heel was out of bounds, but not on the ground out of bounds.

Re: Dorius (hope I spelled that right)
He was a bit younger, either still in high school or just after, but I actually saw him do a 360 dunk between games of a 9th grade league I coached in; so I wouldn't agree with your characterization of his play.Wilkinson dunking? He could barely get off the ground. I believe he holds the record among players over 6'-9" that were blocked by players 6'-0" and under. He did have a sweet baby hook game with either hand and used the glass like a pro though.

Great hands, great court position awareness and quick trigger/release. Fun to see those players from that era.
