Flop Warnings

Post by jwaggie » January 27th, 2022, 8:45 am

I’m so sick of flop warnings! I hate flopping as much as anyone but the warnings aren’t helping stop them. They’re called so inconsistently and interrupt the flow of the game.

Amen. The officials have proven to be incapable of distinguishing between a flop and a charge. How many times have we seen a flop been called only to watch the replay and realize the offensive player totally trucked the defender. Definitely lacks consistency and seems like the officials are calling flop warnings just for the sake of calling them and making a point.

The offensive foul on Bean (i think) was pretty terrible. The SDSU guy wasn't even close to having set feet. Major inconsistencies with flops and charges and blocking across the board.

In the ruling on the flop, can they call a flop on an offensive player? or can they call the kicking the leg out, like the NBA changed, i think that is how we got the call in the corner on the sdsu player, he kicked out each time.

Yes they can. We have actually had that called against us as well this season on a 3 point shot and falling down in the same fashion as the SDSU player did last night.

There was way too much flopping last night by both sides. Ashworth RJ, Bairstow on our side, many times leaving the Aztecs with open shots. It reminded me of an NBA game. The flop warnings are inconsistent, but something has to be done with the flopping.

I don't know why the ref has to call anything on a flop? If a defender wants to fall down on the ground and leave his man unguarded, that is on him. Unless he throws himself down in the middle of the key where someone could trip on him and get hurt, all the flop does is just leave the defense a man short. The refs shouldn't let an actor bait him into making a call.

I completely agree with this take. Is it not punishment enough to slide across the floor while the other team gets an easy bucket at your expense??? Let em play, just make it a no call.

Flopping should be a foul, but I find selective enforcement has made things worse.

Make it a follow up call. Let the play finish and then at the next dead ball give the flopping player a foul. Why not make it a time out review as well. Keeps the game going and punishes offenders.

That's normally how it's called. After the play ends.

They usually let the offensive player continue to a shot attempt and call it on the change of possession. That's what they tried to do in the first half last night before the senior ref overruled the call.
