We thought it, I believe, but it is still good to see in print from him. I still haven't seen anything official on the kid from Idaho.

I think we were all hoping but not sure it was official. Just nice to see a recruited player staying put.

Re: Karson Templin is ALL IN!
I like his game and motor. He might not be our top scorer but he’s the type of player that can be our heart. He plays hard and does the dirty work. I think he has the ability to be more offensively minded than Bean was. I like the comparison of Bean mixed with Wesley.

Templin looks really good and potential starter in year 1 despite the transfer portal.

I confirmed he was still coming a week or so ago but it's still cool to see him put this out there.

Re: Karson Templin is ALL IN!
Bean is a great comparison. Templin is the kind of kid who does the dirty work and is surprising extremely athletic and agile. I have seen him play multiple times and he can hoop!
What surprised me is how good of a feel he has for the game. He is a tremendous passer, has strong hands and rebounds well, gets off the ground quickly to block shots and he can still score with the best of them. He plays with a bit of a chip on his shoulder too.
His Senior highlights show how well rounded he is. He’s still only 17 and his upside is huge. Excited for him to be an Aggie!

And I'm still working to see what Garrison Phelps will do. I've never believed Kalifa Sakho would play here once Ryan Odom left.

Re: Karson Templin is ALL IN!
here's to hoping you guys are proven right on this one. i don't see it but maybe this will be the next kerwynn williams isn't fast reverse jinx? we weren't exactly competing against peer institutes for Templin or Phelps so either wanting to still come here is not a surprise.
hard worker? yes. hustler? yes. crafty? yes. he also looks like he has benefited from being allowed to play in a 6-foot and under league where is the biggest kid on the court by a mile. let's see what happens when he is matched up against players that are his same size and more athletic than him. i can't imagine he gets minutes as a freshman like SLB predicts but i guess we'll see.
welcome aboard Karson.

Aggies22, I had heard that Odom did not offer Templin a spot at VCU. Is that your understanding as well?
If so, I am excited about this kid and think it could work out really well, but I also think expectations should maybe be tempered a bit and it's very interesting if Odom truly didn't re-offer him.

Re: Karson Templin is ALL IN!
It's my understanding that Karson had no desire to follow Ryan Odom. He had his heart set on Utah State and what the school and environment are able to offer him. He truly committed to the school and not the coach. Once Coach Sprinkle reaffirmed that he was wanted here, it was an easy decision.Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑April 19th, 2023, 11:40 amAggies22, I had heard that Odom did not offer Templin a spot at VCU. Re: Karson Templin is ALL IN!
Not the best competition in his highlight video, but there have been plenty of players his size in the Big Sky and Big West who couldn't move, jump or shoot as well. With the openings we have it's a good time to take a chance on a HS player like him who looks like he could develop into a MWC level player. He has a D1 body, might even grow a couple more inches. It's a good thing for a few reasons that Sprinkle honored the commit.

There is a highlight clip with a bunch of higher-level players that Templin looked good in.SeldomSeenSmith wrote: ↑April 19th, 2023, 12:03 pmNot the best competition in his highlight video, but there have been plenty of players his size in the Big Sky and Big West who couldn't move, jump or shoot as well. Didn't he have offers from UNLV, UVU(not that we shouldn't beat UVU, but Madsen had some good stuff going on there) and at least interest from BYU?The Truth wrote: ↑April 19th, 2023, 11:35 amhere's to hoping you guys are proven right on this one. i don't see it but maybe this will be the next kerwynn williams isn't fast reverse jinx? we weren't exactly competing against peer institutes for Templin or Phelps so either wanting to still come here is not a surprise.

While probably not as skilled with his back to the basket he gives me Nate Harris vibes. He probably has a little more dribble drive and a better jump shot. Excited to watch Karson as an Aggie.

Re: Karson Templin is ALL IN!
Some of those HS players do look small, but Templin averaged a double double on the Nike EYBL last summer. He played against all the top HS Seniors across the country. This why he picked up 15+ offers.
One of the games I saw him play in December was vs. 6A Plano Texas where he was matched against a four star 6’8” Oklahoma State commit. Templin dropped a 20/20 and probably had 5 blocks too.
Agree, we should temper expectations and not expect too much from a freshman, but the kid will for sure come in and compete for some minutes.

Re: Karson Templin is ALL IN!
I wonder if there is a strong Aggie influence down in that part of Texas. One of the best volleyball players to play at Utah State named Bailey Downing came from Lovejoy High School, Texas.

Bean was a walk-on, so there's that. You take the kid you like and who you think will make you a better team. If he's also being recruited by "peer institutions," so be it. If not, so be it.

It is good to see he has a little bulk to him and is not the typical 6'8" 180 lb freshman we usually get. Those type don't hold up very well compared to guys like Ledee or Johnson from SDSU.
