Biggest game of the year
Biggest game of the year
The game against SDSU is the biggest game of year... obviously. If we win, we are in great position to win the league and it would almost guarantee a spot in the tournament. If we lose, SDSU has the pathway to win the league and we become a bubble team. The entire crowd needs to bring it, not just the herd, to levels better than Boise State. LeDee talks more trash than anyone not name Jalen House in the MW. We need to get on him and the whole Aztec team.
And Jeff Goodman will be there, his first game in The Spectrum.

Re: Biggest game of the year
I agree it is the biggest game of the year and the winner has the inside track to win the regular season. A loss does not put the Aggies on the bubble. The Aggies are squarely in the tournament right now as probably around a seven seed. Losing at home to a top 15 team will not jeopardize that. Super excited, the crowd has got to bring it, hopefully the players play with intensity they did at home against Boise.

SDSU is 19 in the AP that was released today. This is a great chance to get a win over a top 20 team.

I for one am glad we are feeling like true underdogs in this one. I think our team plays better when that’s the case.ProvoAggie wrote: ↑February 19th, 2024, 11:19 amSDSU is 19 in the AP that was released today. This is a great chance to get a win over a top 20 team.

Already been stated multiple times, but yep, winner here has a huge leg up for the regular season title.

Re: Biggest game of the year
A loss would definitely hurt the projected 7 seed. I don't think that we end up on the bubble unless we go 0-3 in our remaining Q1 games (assuming we get at least one more Q1 game in the MWC tournament) and/or pick up a bad loss in our remaining games. But we probably need at least one more Q1 win at some point this season to feel confident that we will get a bid.Aggie84025 wrote: ↑February 19th, 2024, 9:41 amI agree it is the biggest game of the year and the winner has the inside track to win the regular season. Re: Biggest game of the year
If we lose the biggest game of the year, we will likely see the biggest meltdown of the year on this board. We've got some things going for us.
1. We're coming off an (I can't express myself without swearing) kicking and we're playing a ranked team. If we lose, we do not win the MWC Title and we will not get the seeding we need for the tournament. Hopefully, these factors alone will motivate the players to do what they need to do to win the game tonight.
2. The game is at home.
3. The game is at altitude which will likely affect SDSU.
4. SDSU does not play well on the road against Quad 1 Teams.
5. During the last game everyone played terrible with the exception of Martinez and Jackson. Osobor struggled with his D and TOs. We sucked at rebounding and shooting. It's highly unlikely we see that type of performance again.
6. We had a lot on the line when BSU came to town, and we were ready and kicked their asses.

Re: Biggest game of the year
Of all the home games this was the one that worried me most. After Colorado State and Nevada I'm more worried than ever.
That said, I still believe in this team.
On the other hand, if they lose, the season is still a great success and there's plenty of basketball to be played.

This is from The Athletic yesterday morning. So, yes, a loss would have put us on the bubble.
Spotlight on: Utah State
The Aggies could be an interesting test case come Selection Sunday. Good predictive and performance metrics, 19-5 record, 10-4 away from home … but only two Q1 wins at the moment (and two more over non-D1 opponents). It’s enough to have Utah State in the field for now, but they’re a heartbeat from the bubble and need more Q1 wins to bolster the resume. Tuesday’s home tilt against SDSU is a prime chance, and with a few Q3s and home Q1 against New Mexico on the other side, Utah State probably needs four of the next five to provide some cushion entering the Mountain West tournament.

Re: Biggest game of the year
I’m just glad the whole team played like that was the biggest game of the year. I think they all know what they have to do, and that is not let up against SJS, Fresno, and Air Force. NM will receive our undivided attention for sure.

Re: Biggest game of the year
Agreed it is easy to get up for Boise, SDSU and NM at home but the real key will be if this team can come with the same energy next Tuesday at Fresno. Fresno is not a great team and the stadium will have maybe 2,500 fans and be fairly quiet. AF at home is a game they should be excited since it is at home but AF is a bad team but still not anyone they overlook. Excited to see how it plays out.

Can you please explain the “pole position”? Sounds intriguing.

Re: Biggest game of the year
I know this sounds crazy, but the Wyoming game at Wyoming was my biggest win. Complete trap game against a team that is very tough at home. We get down 10 points. We had to win this game (strong words but a critical game nonetheless). The boys dug deep and found a way to win. I know we got killed at CSU, but imagine also losing the Wyoming game as well. This game makes me feel better about the San Jose and Fresno games. Both games should be wins. I think this team goes in and wins them both.
