Re: Malibou
Dating myself but in the1960s there was a place up Logan canyon called Maibou, it was a log cabin. You paid 1 dollar to enter, they sold mixers,, you brought your own bottle, there were booths, a juke box and a dance floor. They opened about 8pm on Friday and Saturday and close either at midnight or one am. Probably midnight because the girls had to be in there on campus housing by midnight. I think. The thing is it wouldn’t work for Sprinkle but it was a really really a great place to party on weekends. Always packed, basically all students. During those years there was also a cactus club downtown that was very popular an a bar called the Bloody Buck just across the Idaho boarder. I am sure this has all disappeared but in those days you never had to find a house party
At one point in my USU career I was the IFC social chairman. Not much of a job but one day I got a call from Dean Bertenshaw (Dean of Men). He asked to see me in his office. Nothing good could come from meeting with the dean of men. So I showed up at the appointed time and after a little chit chat he said I know that there is drinking in the fraternity houses. My response was yep!!! He then said I don’t care. I just don’t want to get a call late Friday or Saturday night. Can you take care of that? I sad yep even though I knew it was impossible for me to solve this problem. So I reported the conversation to the IFC and nothing changed. I think Logan may be living in a different world than how it seemed to be way back in the old days?

Field of 68 in Logan
Funny they talked about the lack of a bar scene so much. Nonetheless, good exposure for the program to be on those shows.

Jami at the city museum has quite a collection of "entertainment paraphernalia" they collected from behind walls and in the basement. It's all in a special collection you have to ask to see.FloridaAggie13 wrote: ↑February 21st, 2024, 1:06 pmIf those walls could talk...

That would be pretty cool to see. I remember the poker (illegal?) machines and non-existent ID check at the door among other things. I wanted to burn my clothes after leaving because of the heavy stench of cigarette smoke.BearLakeMonster wrote: ↑February 21st, 2024, 5:07 pmJami at the city museum has quite a collection of "entertainment paraphernalia" they collected from behind walls and in the basement. Nothing represents the school better than the head basketball coach death gripping a Natty Ice while fondling two co-eds. The decent, courteous thing would have been to at least ditch the wedding ring.ViAggie wrote: ↑February 21st, 2024, 5:36 pmWe don't want or need another Larry Eustachy on our hands.usugoalie13 wrote: ↑February 21st, 2024, 7:12 amJust be friends with the hockey team. Mulligans! LOL I damnear drove myself crazy trying to think of the name of that place. I remember when it was a private club and had to be invited in, lucky for me I was a friend of a friend who got us in regularly on the weekend of course. ;-)
Sultans and the White Owl were the only two other establishments that I can remember from my short lived 2-years as a student at USU. Sultans was the smoker's bar hang out as I recall. Isn't there a place up by campus now? Near the stadium? Or is it already gone?

Re: Field of 68 in Logan
Quick Mulligans story. Me and a few of the fellas from the 03 basketball team were out on the town. Basically they were using me for a ride. We hit the owl for a while before heading over to Mulligans. We were having a good time when all the sudden they were freaking out yelling at me to follow them. Long story short we ran out the back door as Stew and an assistant walked in the front.ViAggie wrote: ↑February 21st, 2024, 5:45 pmMulligans! Also, I think Sultan's Tavern is still on main street.
There are certainly not a lot of bars, but there are a couple.

My dad always tells the story of everyone watching Barkley on the first tee. He swings, then just starts dropping F bombs one after another. As you could imagine, the crowd watching was not used to that kind of language.

When I was in school, a former student was shooting a movie in Logan (it was called Heaven or Vegas, or something like that). I had some buddies that were extras in a few scenes at the Owl. Yasmine Bleeth (of Baywatch fame) was in the movie and was around town a lot. One of my friends tried to score a date but was laughed off. I went to a screening of the movie on campus - it was horrible (no offense if one of you posters was the producer).

Re: Field of 68 in Logan
I actually like that these morons don't know anything about Logan.
A bar used to be a big thing because that was the ONLY PLACE you could get an adult beverage served to you. Now you can get a beer, bottle of wine or a mixed drink at any of the restaurants.
For us seniors: Stripper afternoon at the Cactus. The Diamond Stud in Franklin Id. Fort Courage in Smithfield. Fond memories of getting kicked out of Mulligans (not a member and no-one would sponsor me and my wife), running for our life out of a bar after getting the stink-eye from a group of cowboys in Lewiston after loading up the juke box with 5 or 6 straight plays of "Smoke on the Water."
Riding shotgun with my grandpa: Fay's in Smithfield and whatever the bar was on main in Preston.

Re: Field of 68 in Logan
According to my son at USU -- it's all house parties up there.
