Nope. He'll take whatever they'll give him.

This one feels like someone trying to chase clout by restating stuff that is widely speculated.

Not a word about this over on cougarboard. Doesn't mean it's not brewing in the background, but I'm a little skeptical that we would know something here before anyone over there says anything at all.

Help thou mine unbelief, 22.
Thank you for going over to the cess pool to check that out. I was tempted but just couldn't go there.
FWIW, I actually saw a post over there this morning and clicked on it to see what the responses were. By the time I clicked on it the post had been removed. It doesn't appear that they're allowing the discussion to happen.

I have to add. There has yet to be an Aggie coach leave for somewhere else in the last 20 years and even make the dance yet. What does that tell you…
Probably that we had a long term coach in Stew.
Well, that's part of it, but it is worth noting that four of our last five coaches made the tournament within two years, and two of them made it their first year. I think it also indicates that we have something special here that may not be easy to replicate elsewhere.

I agree that we have something special here, and Spectrum Magic doesn't travel with a coach. However, there are only two coaches that fit the description above: Smith and Odom. Smith has been at Utah for three years without a tournament berth. Odom has only had one year and almost won his conference tournament to get in. I'd like to see a little more data that suggests that a coach who leaves here for another job won't be nearly as successful as they could be here, but that'll take a few more years (although I think we can all agree that Smith shouldn't have taken the Utah job).

I still have the thought that Kyle Smith gets hired away by a bigger P5 and DS still ends up in Washington - just not at the school we thought.

For the record, I don't think either UW or WSU are better programs than what he would leave in USU.
Why would Sprinkle even consider WSU? Coming from a wsu fan.

Seriously wsu has zero basketball support, will be playing in the wcc for two years then in the mwc, and they are strapped for cash. I would be shocked if wsu pays better than the extension that usu just offered Sprinkle.

Odom has the best chance of replicating what he did in Logan - he's on exactly the same trajectory. VCU has tremendous fan support - almost like a USU-East when it comes to gameday atmosphere, support, etc.

If you major success by bank accounts and not tourney appearances, both are doing fine on that front as well.

You may be right more data is needed but you have to admit it doesn’t happen a lot from mid major teams. Straight to the tourney for a new job. Now likely 3 in a row.

I’m guessing Pope is severely underpaid by Big 12 standards, there is always the “calling” factor at YBU. I wonder if Pope is finally seeing the dollar signs though..
He is underpaid if you only count what he gets from BYU as an institution, but just like football, there is a lot more salary coming in from donors for both head coaches and assistants.

I know this name might not be very Popular.

But there is a a former P5 coach, who got a raw deal, that would be a bounce back, (like Alford, Pitino, etc.) coach from Montana, with Utah Ties, who can recruit athletes to Utah, and who has been to a sweet sixteen.

He might be old enough to be happy here and stay for awhile.

Anyone know what Larry Krystkowiak is up to?

Thoughts on bringing him in?

He’s very respected, and Utah is an impossible place to win with their lack of Support. He might be able to thrive amhers in Logan in the Mountain West

No.

Not a chance. He hates recruiting and hated the direction college basketball was headed 3 years ago so he got out. With NIL & transfer now I’m sure it would be a disaster.
