Re: Bring on Fresno
I like that the game was close, Fresno left it all out there on the court.

Re: Bring on Fresno
Fresno went 22-23 from the FT line. That's outstanding. Let's trust there will be a bit of a reversion to the mean tomorrow.

Key will be to get Pope into foul trouble early on.

Re: Bring on Fresno
If we lose to Fresno, we've got issues (like a team that knows their coach is leaving and many of them will be left behind).

Re: Bring on Fresno
Question is if Sprinkle elects to play small ball with them again. That didn’t go so well last time. Maybe we play Isaac or Sahko along side Great and just try to control the paint and the glass this time.

Re: Bring on Fresno
I'm surely not a coach and am staying in Residence inn instead of Holiday inn, but I agree, we should try to force the game with bigs instead of them dictating small ball.

Re: Bring on Fresno
Last game Boayke was out he is since back playing. I think there will be some small ball but I would guess we start with our regular starting lineup. Aggies need to get out early and not give them any hope.AGGIEinIOWA wrote: ↑March 13th, 2024, 2:59 pmQuestion is if Sprinkle elects to play small ball with them again. I'm staying in a Red Roof Inn, and agree; let's go old school "smash mouth" (to quote Sprinks) basketball.

Re: Bring on Fresno
I think if they double/triple Osobor we start to move him 15 feet out and let our guards drive and Osobor crash for a dish off or rebound.

Re: Bring on Fresno
Unless a bunch of Fresno fans bought tickets for tomorrow after their win today, there won’t be hardly any. It’ll feel like home court advantage; USU. If today’s attendance was any indication….

Re: Bring on Fresno
Need to establish paint presence and try and dominate down low. On defense I would hedge more with screens. Last time they ate us alive on switching screens. Need to push the person with the ball a little further out. Need to rebound better as well.

Re: Bring on Fresno
I actually think we tried to establish the paint too much the first go round. I think that we ignored transition points and that's where things got ugly for us.
Essentially we need to run.

Re: Bring on Fresno
From the last game, We turned the ball over 17 times (Mason and Ian had 10 of those) and they only turned it over 9 times. They had 20 points off turnovers. We let them stay relatively close throughout the game. We also missed a lot of free throws. We only shot 66% from the charity stripe. I thought our defense was rather poor at times giving them easy buckets. Put them away early and break their will. Poor teams with lame duck coaches always seem to be hard to close out.

Re: Bring on Fresno
I imagine every other fan base in the conference will be cheering for Fresno. There may be a lot of Aggies but I bet "the field" will be just as loud.WAaggieFan wrote: ↑March 13th, 2024, 11:58 pmUnless a bunch of Fresno fans bought tickets for tomorrow after their win today, there won’t be hardly any. Ya… We made some enemies last year (The rice family) , starting the UN LV chant. I say let’s do it again though. Anyone know any UNM chants?tysteve20 wrote:I imagine every other fan base in the conference will be cheering for Fresno. Re: Bring on Fresno
Kind of related, but news broke today that Fresno State was set to fire their coach after last year's tourney, interesting (and on going) reasons why they didn't: https://www.aol.com/cbs-sports-apologiz ... 57093.html

Re: Bring on Fresno
They were ready to fire him after the tournament last year but a week before he filed an anti-discrimination lawsuit against the University that prevented them from doing so. I can't imagine he'll ever get another head coaching job.GordoAggie wrote:Paywall

Well, we were missing our best slasher.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
