Re: No tod
This reads like he did in fact turn it down. Again, I bet his family didn’t want to uproot and move to Utah. They’re at a hard stage to move and are probably super happy where they’re at.

Re: No tod
I would have been fine with him as the hire but not especially excited. I think we can do better (could certainly do worse too I suppose).

He probably used it as a negotiating tool to get a pay raise.Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑March 29th, 2024, 5:35 pmThis reads like he did in fact turn it down. Again, I bet his family didn’t want to uproot and move to Utah. They’re at a hard stage to move and are probably super happy where they’re at.

Re: No tod
Got that renegotiation to stay home. That was likely the goal all along.

That’s how I read it. He has done that with us twice now. I hope we don’t fall for it again.Aggie in Boise wrote: ↑March 29th, 2024, 5:39 pmHe probably used it as a negotiating tool to get a pay raise.Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑March 29th, 2024, 5:35 pmThis reads like he did in fact turn it down. Obviously his wife spoke to Odom's wife and got a review of dining establishments in Logan.

Re: No tod
Or it could be that he knew we were going a different direction and pulled his name to save face. To be discovered in 22's upcoming tome.

I believe this, but this could also be semantics.

Re: No tod
I think we will have to wait to see where the final offer stands on a per year basis when accepted but I have to wonder if the major extension offer to Danny might have an effect here.
Coaches might say they are interested because they heard we pay around $2million per and along the early discussions it comes to light that the job might start near $950k and now they are not as interested.

I hope you’re right, or we’re going to have to start a thread about you being wrong. That’s the precedent.

Re: No tod
It was an odd choice from the start.
Tod is a good coach, but he would be in a no-win situation. Sprinkle, Odom, and Smith came in after quick success. The problem was that Tod had 0 NCAA tournaments and from the Midwest (far away from Utah).

Re: No tod
I doubt he turned it down. Especially if our AD is being honest that we are just now starting in person interviews and the fact that she emphasized she wants a coach who can coach both offense and defense.

Hey, sorry, guys! Thanks for giving me a look. You helped me negotiate a raise at Toledo. Thanks a ton! I'll have to try some Aggie Ice Cream at a later date.

Me too. He probably has a higher floor than a lot of the other candidates. The problem is I don't think his ceiling is very much higher than his floor.
