That is my concern about our PG, and I am still wanting another player that can do PG to be safe.Aglicious wrote: ↑April 15th, 2024, 7:01 pmMan I hope that doesn't prove to be the case, seeing that our new PG is from the ASun conference.aggies22 wrote: ↑April 15th, 2024, 6:06 pmPerhaps the jump from Youngstown State and the Atlantic Sun Conference is too big going to Utah State and the Mountain West.ereksonaggie95 wrote: ↑April 15th, 2024, 3:45 pmI would rather have Great, I don't know much about the guy from Stetson. The Asun was the 26th ranked conference though. Youngstown State's Horizon league was only marginally better at 20th.
High risk high reward move at PG and 100% excited about Albury

Re: Current State of USU Basketball
He did drop 23 on Duke who is in a little bit lower league than us. So he should be good for 15-18pts against most MWC teams.Aglicious wrote:Man I hope that doesn't prove to be the case, seeing that our new PG is from the ASun conference.aggies22 wrote: ↑April 15th, 2024, 6:06 pmPerhaps the jump from Youngstown State and the Atlantic Sun Conference is too big going to Utah State and the Mountain West.ereksonaggie95 wrote: ↑April 15th, 2024, 3:45 pmI would rather have Great, I don't know much about the guy from Stetson. Even if Great comes back, we will need another big or two to replace Sakho and D. Grant.

Let me preface this by mentioning that i am not saying that Albury will be as effective as Brown was this year for the Aggies but based on prior year stats it is a good comparison. Based on similar competition between the 2 in the Big Sky and ASUN I think Albury can play well at the MWC level with other MW caliber players on his team.Aglicious wrote: ↑April 15th, 2024, 7:01 pmMan I hope that doesn't prove to be the case, seeing that our new PG is from the ASun conference.aggies22 wrote: ↑April 15th, 2024, 6:06 pmPerhaps the jump from Youngstown State and the Atlantic Sun Conference is too big going to Utah State and the Mountain West.ereksonaggie95 wrote: ↑April 15th, 2024, 3:45 pmI would rather have Great, I don't know much about the guy from Stetson. 2022-2023 Darius Brown stats. Big Sky 3rd team all conference and defensive player of the year. Big Sky in 2022-2023 was ranked as the 24th best conference that year. 9.1 points, 4.9 assists, 1.8 steals, 4.4 rebounds and 1.6 turnovers per game.
2023-2024 Deyton Albury stats. ASUN newcomer of the year and 3rd team all conference. ASUN in 2023-2024 was ranked as the 26th best conference this year. 17 points, 5.8 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.2 steal and 3.3 turnovers per game.

Slightly lower defensive numbers; slightly better offensive numbers, all aligned with our new coach. Agreed - and if we don't get Osobor I hope he doesn't go to Washington. No particular reason other than spite, lol.EngineeringAggie wrote: ↑April 18th, 2024, 11:12 amHappy to see the update about Ian. We’ll be fine. Returning two starters and MW 6MOTY. A stellar signing in Albury already.
I am so stoked to be returning Isaac, Mason, and Josh. Better than I thought we’d do!

We might as well be throwing darts at a dartboard in predicting what these players will do. I’m unsure what the basis of us feeling that Ian was almost certain to remain at USU but within a day or two having him being almost out the door. Was Ian’s old man’s demand late-breaking news? I can’t imagine it was.greggers1868 wrote: ↑April 18th, 2024, 10:05 pmBad. He’s saying that Ian went from almost certainly coming back to probably not coming back.
One thing for sure is that the portal and NIL have made the month following the tourney a lot more exciting and nerve wracking. Compounding that is our near annual search for a new coach.

Re: Current State of USU Basketball
I guess this how it feels to be a championship or second level soccer team over in England. They get their best players poached all the time, it’s essentially going to become a 2 tiered system now since the ncaa can’t do (I can't express myself without swearing) about it.
At the very least maybe the have nots and mid majors will get a little more love from refs in the tournament, rather than the typical one sided reffing against power conf teams. Any true college basketball fan would rather see the group of underpaid underdogs make a run over the teams who just bought their way to the tournament.
And from the selection committee on the bubble. If you spend 4 mil on your team and can only get a 40 net then give me the MW and MVC teams who spent 500-750k over them at 45

Re: Current State of USU Basketball
Am I the only one that thinks Ian is probably worth the $200k in NIL money he’s asking for?
Like that ask doesn’t seem crazy to me for a player of his caliber in a universe where Dallin Hall wants $600k and Steven Ashworth is getting $400k. Ian is a better player than either of those two.

Re: Current State of USU Basketball
Exactly! I can't even make a good faith argument for staying at Utah State unless he just really wanted to hang around because he got comfortable here. I think he'd do some work here. But I think Great will step up and do some work anywhere he ends up. I won't spout that fan board "have fun riding the bench" word vomit.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑April 18th, 2024, 10:33 pmI get that it sucks for us, but getting a million dollars to play for a blue blood isn’t what I think of as a kid getting set up for failure in life. There's only one thing holding Great back, and that's his conditioning. And even then, he was a force this year. Surrounded by a team of top caliber dudes, maybe he wouldn't have to be fighting and hammering every play down in the post. I got pretty tired of Danny's game plan of "just throw it to Great and let the other team mob him every play."
