Count me out on this kid. I wasn't that impressed anyway, and he was only a 23% 3 pt shooter last year???

Terrence Hill signing moved from no chance to minor chance if that helps.

He's talking about how in the thread it's been commented how multiple names have had an uptick in their likelihood of returning to usu. The direction has all been upward.

No one I particularly care about has recommitted to coming back since Falslev, so while incremental progress is fine, I am looking for some "run it back" posts to scratch my itch today. C'mon, Josh. It's time.

So right now it like looks something like this?

1. C) Jackson Grant, SR
2. F) Isaac Johnson, JR
3. F) Karson Templin, SO
4. F) Nigel Burris, JR
5. F) Chris Cox, FR
6. G) Mason Falslev, SO
7. G) Josh Uduje, SR
8. G) Garrison Phelps, FR
9. G) Jordy Barnes, FR

Unknown:
C) Great Osobor SR
G) Ian Martinez SR

Those 13 scholarships are running out quick. Is Jordy Barnes actually a scholarship or is he a walkon?

Assuming Ian returns that puts it at 10 scholarships. With the 3 remaining we for sure need a starting caliber PG, probably a 4 man that score like an Osobor and center that can put in 10-15 minutes. I know Calhoun had that Dynes at YSU, not sure if he is in the portal but seems like a solid back up center that could give 10-15 solid minutes a game.

Just given the timing and the ncaa’s track record of expediency, no shot imo.

Zero. But that doesn't mean he can't bail and get immediate eligibility elsewhere. Not only does he have the injury waiver in his pocket BUT he has the coaching change card he can pull, I also believe he is a graduate transfer. So he's got the trifecta of waiver reasons.

Could see Barnes being a preferred walk on for a year since he’s a local guy and maybe Dynes we can bring in with NIL money over a scholarship..

If Ian and Great come back we could still be looking at 3 schollies left. Definitely need a true #1 PG and someone who can backup PG a bit better than Ian/Mason (maybe Hill still comes??). The last spot probably best athlete available no matter the position.

Transfer PG/transfer G or Hill/Barnes
Martinez/Falslev/transfer G
Falslev/Uduje/Burris/Phelps
Great/Templin/Burris
Fish/Great/Dynes?/Grant

Is there any way you would be able to say why the "No Return to Utah State" players are not returning? example: looking for more playing time, didn't like it here, counseled out, better NIL, or private reasons. If you can't say, that is fine.

I get the impression that Calhoun is not going to "counsel out" anyone. Is this due to the fact that he was not the one to recruit these guys and maybe doesn't want to start out on that foot? or is there a possibility that he thinks some of guys that have not played have a legitimate shot at being contributors?

I don't want to be mean but there are guys returning that should be recruited over. I would rather roll the dice and have more chances that someone new being brought in will be a contributor rather than hoping a returner can improve to the point of being a factor.

With so few spots open for new guys, this staff really can't miss the mark. The new guys will need to be immediate impact players.

Nigel Burris and Jackson Grant are NOT MW level players. Both are WAC guys.

That's something I'll miss from Danny. I loved how he came in and cleaned house last year.

I realize no team is going to play 13 guys, someone has to sit the bench, and a team does need some practice guys but I would love our bench guys to be younger players that are sitting out a year to get acclimated like Phelps and D. Grant were this past year. If they're not younger guys then at least great support guys that understand their role. I think Burris accepted that role last year and appeared to be very engaged and supportive on the bench.

I would like to keep Burris just to see what becomes of him under a different staff. He did not look like the player we saw WAC highlights of as a Freshman and I think a lot of that was due to how Sprinkle handled him. I think Sprink is a screamer and the kind of coach that believes he can motivate by getting in a kids face. Some kids respond, some learn to let is slide off their shoulders, and others lose their confidence. I think Burris was the latter. DS yelled at Osobor after he made some stupid turnover or something too but you could just tell that Great's body language was like "yeah, yeah, I got it coach whatever....what are you gonna do bench me?" as he sort of listened on his way to the bench. Burris' confidence looked shot before the season began.

J Grant.. I think you're right-probably not gonna make it at this level.

If i recall there was no house to clean. Almost everyone was already in the portal. He also honored all the scholarship guys that Odom had recruited (Sakho, Phelps and Grant). I have seen very little of Jackson Grant but what i have seen he does not look like a MWC player. Burris we saw very little of and while he did not look great you could tell he had 0 confidence. I wonder if with some confidence and a new coaching staff he can be a role player. It is a fine line of coming in and just cleaning house versus letting people start off with a fresh look. If Josh/Ian stay along with the other players we currently have the remaining 3-4 scholarships should be enough to bring in some impact guys and make next years team super competitive on paper.

After assessing how things have transpired this week and trying to do as much research as I can, this is my PREDICTION as to who stays, who is going, and who is on the fence. If at any time I have reason to believe that my prediction needs to be altered I will do so.

Nigel Burris - Stays at Utah State
Mason Falslev - Stays at Utah State - Has been announced.
Jackson Grant - Stays at Utah State
Isaac Johnson - Stays at Utah State - Has been announced.
Garrison Phelps - Stays at Utah State
Karson Templin - Stays at Utah State - Has been announced.
Jaxon Smith - Stays at Utah State
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Josh Uduje - VERY HIGH chance he stays at Utah State
Ian Martinez - MEDIUM chance he stays at Utah State - Has announced transfer portal entry.
Great Osobor - MEDIUM chance he stays at Utah State - Has announced transfer portal entry.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Max Agbonkpolo - No Return to Utah State - Can't enter the transfer portal without injury waiver.
Landon Brenchley - No Return to Utah State - Has announced transfer portal entry.
Dallin Grant - No Return to Utah State - Has announced transfer portal entry.
Javon Jackson - No Return to Utah State - Has announced transfer portal entry.
Kalifa Sakho - No Return to Utah State - Has announced transfer portal entry.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jordy Barnes - Will Sign at Utah State
Chris Cox - HIGH chance he signs at Utah State
Terrence Hill - MINOR chance he signs at Utah State
Kase Wynott - MINOR chance he signs at Utah State
What is the likelihood of Max Agbonkpolo getting that injury waiver before the transfer portal closes?
Zero. But that doesn't mean he can't bail and get immediate eligibility elsewhere. Not only does he have the injury waiver in his pocket BUT he has the coaching change card he can pull, I also believe he is a graduate transfer. So he's got the trifecta of waiver reasons.

I’m 95% sure I saw Craig Smith at Cafe Sabor tonight. Does that lower our chances on any of the remaining guys?

That being his first choice when back in Logan says so much. No hate, but wouldn’t be my first choice lol

He did. A hoodie. And under it a red shirt was peeking out. The nerve.
