The Cougars have unlimited money and coaches are way less expensive than shopping malls. If they don't get Madsen who will they hire?3rdGenAggie wrote: ↑April 11th, 2024, 8:27 pmMark Madsen just signed an extension, is making $2.4 million and has like a $6 million buyout.
BYU certainly has the money, but we'll see if they're willing to part with it...and if Madsen wants BYU.

No chance. The ONLY reason Pope got a sniff is because he played there (and reportedly has a strong relationship with the AD).

He’s solid can do a lot of things at a high quality. Plus I say we have a pretty good recruiter on the staff that he will definitely listen to. Being his brother and allgreggers1868 wrote:I don’t watch any cougar basketball. Is Spencer Johnson any good?

Pope wanted to undercut sprinkle at WA and ended up getting a better gig lol. And probably more money.
I think Pope is a good coach and will do OK at KY. I hope BYU crashes and burns.

1) Johnson has only 1 year left, and this is his only chance to play with his brother.
2) Pope left at a bad time for BYU, so it is chaos at BYU.

Re: Pope to Kentucky
Yeah funny how that worked. Pope isn't the worst possible hire, but definitely a step down if you look at what Pitino, tubby and calipari had accomplished before taking the Kentucky job compared to pope. Good luck to him. Don't really care about Kentucky either way and hope BYU gets a downgrade

Re: Pope to Kentucky
Holy cow. The Kentucky fans thought that they were getting Dan Hurley, Jay Wright, or Billy Donovan... And they ended up with Mark Pope? What a world we live in...
As an aside, wouldn't it be hilarious if BYU got a few LDS general authorities to give Chris Burgess a call and tell him that the Church needs him at BYU? Am I the only one who is old enough to remember the mini-scandal involving Roger Reid when Burgess signed with Duke out of high school? (Although if they are going to use the "it is a calling; the Church needs you" card to try to get a coach, I would have to think that they call Mark Madsen first.)

I like the idea of Burgess getting hired at byu because it instantly makes Utah worse, and who knows how well Burgess will do as a head coach. It will probably mean that both schools struggle.
