Division I Athletic Budgets

Post by BigVBAg » May 16th, 2012, 8:51 am

A fellow Aggie shared this with me, and since I didn't see it posted, so I thought I'd share:

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/ ... 54955804/1

It gives some insights into where we stand today (vs. the WAC) and where we'll fit next year when we join the MWC.

My friend copied the spreadsheet into Excel so he could more easily compare us to other MWC schools, but he's interested in capturing the details for each school that revealed when you click the “+” sign. It could be done manually, but it would be quite laborious to do that for all schools. Any chance that one of you web gurus could do it easily with some code?

It really shouldn't be difficult to pull all of the data. It's all stored in 1 JSON file which can be seen broken out here:
http://jsonviewer.stack.hu/#http://www. ... ce/NCAA.js
How does he want the information pulled though? You really have a separate spreadsheet for each school.

I find it interesting that UNLV gets more money from subsidy than any other school in the nation. They get $32,292,436

Here is a quick script that has all of the data visible on the page without expanding the sections:
http://www.usufans.com/NCAAData/
You can also pass in a conference to view only that conferences data:
MWC: http://www.usufans.com/NCAAData/?conf=Mt.%20West
WAC: http://www.usufans.com/NCAAData/?conf=WAC

Have to love the $$$ they rake in from the National Finals Rodeo  They get kicked out of their facility for 3-4 weeks and have to play all road games but it sure does pay the bills.

WOW if ticket sales is used as any indicator, the WAC was really hurting once you took out the 3 initial schools leaving. Idaho, LA Teach, MNSU, SJSU, and USU really trail the rest of the pack. Even compared to the bottom of the MWC we will be hurting. Only fellow WAC transfer SJSU had lower ticket sales last year. Hope this move has a good impact on Football like we are anticipating. We are already about maxed out in BBALL, Football has some serious slack to make up!

The data is only through the 2010-11 season...so they technically were still in the MWC. I just don't know why BYU isn't listed in the MWC. They still have Boise listed in the WAC.

I just realized that byu and tcu are missing altogether. It doesn't include private schools.

ALso, when it comes to coaching staff salary in the MWC USU ($6.2M) will be dead last. Even behind SJSU as of 2011. In fact, outside of SJSU ($8.5M) and Colorado State ($8.6M) USU won't even have half the coaching staff budget that the remaining MWC have.... Really goes to show how far we still have to go financially.

I just noticed that the numbers in the top block are just 2011 numbers formatted differently so I was able to put all of this data into 1 table here:
http://www.usufans.com/NCAAData/index2.php
You can also pass in a year and conference in the URL to filter it:
http://www.usufans.com/NCAAData/index2. ... 1&conf=WAC
