This is very similar to how my career started, except I was the "web-edition editor" at the HJ before leaving to do tech writing for IBM. For the HJ, I basically I ran the website (back around 1999 - right after Al Gore invented the internet :) ), helped the photo gang (Mitch Mascaro) with scanning negatives and digital manipulation (this was before they had really good digital SLRs). And I did the weather report... the HJ may still have a binder kicking around with weather-reporting instructions I wrote. But maybe not, I'd hope things have changed a bit since then.
Ya! Fellow tech writer. I just recently graduated with my Master's in Tech Comm from USU. Glad all my schooling is finally over and done with.
Nice work. Were you in the USU STC? I was the STC Whip when I was there.
I've been in the STC off and on, but not really active. I did go to the STC conference in Phoenix a couple years ago though.

There are quite a few USU and JRCLS alums on the board, and in the SLC market. I enjoyed law school, but can't fathom how someone would go there as an undergrad. Though I am sure a lot on here would express the same incredulity about attending law school there.Shoot me a DM if you want to talk about law school/practice of law as a young lawyer.
I'm one of those, USU '80, JRCLS '83. Currently in-house tax counsel to a large gas midstream company in Tulsa, OK.
Interesting. I actually got accepted at JRC back in '81, and got wait-listed by the pukies. I accepted their invitation, gave notice at my HS teaching job, and prayed I wouldn't have to go there. I still used to get actually sick to my stomach when I entered Utah County in those days. Happily I never had to find out if I could stomach the JRC, as the pukes came through for me.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

I wish I could be a trophy husband. Of course, anyone who's seen me knows I will never be a trophy husband, no matter how much my wife makes. I was actually voted "Mr. Ugly" at Logan High in 1975. True story.

I joke about being a trophy husband but my life isn't as cushy as frogman's. I do work in a compounding pharmacy in South Jordan but I make significantly less than my wife. I haven't yet earned the right to keep bees and golf.

I'm looking to pursue a Masters which is a major reason why I want to move back to Logan.

Environmental Manager (Professional Engineer) for MarkWest Energy Partners (MWE), the 2nd largest midstream gas processor in the US and overwhelming largest in the Utica and Marcellus shales. Soon to be merged with Marathon Petroleum Logistics (MPLX) a subsidiary of Marathon Petroleum Corporation (MPC). Who knows what position there will be after the merger. I work in Denver but mostly oversee assets in Pennsyvania, Ohio and West Virginia.

I work in marketing for an educational software company based in Salt Lake County.

Since there had been some discussion about insurance, I am on HDHP and have been for several years at two different employers and am generally pleased with them. The deductible for a family is usually around $3K, and both of my employers have contributed over $2K to my HSA per year, leaving me on the hook for less than $1K of expenses should I get to that point (most years we haven't, except when our daughter was born, but we had saved plenty of money in the HSA from previous years). After deductible the plans have covered everything 80/20, with OOP max at about $6K. That seems like a pretty good deal to me. Essentially, worst case for me would be about $1,500 out of my own earnings in any given year. I can live with that. I am also fortunate that my current company pays the premiums. That saves me a couple thousand a year as well.
