Assuming the Shockers bring back football: Good fit for MWC expansion? Discuss amongst yourselves.

I'm guessing they bring it back at the FCS level and stay in the MVC.

Doesn't matter for us either way. Apparently we're in the Big 12 now. http://www.ispot.tv/ad/7XRG/phillips-66 ... conference

Well, let's see, they're not in a mountainous state, and they're not in the West. Yeah, I would not bet on it.

You just need to adjust your monitor's color settings.

I dunno... They might think it's bad luck to be in a conference with us, considering that the plane carrying the team here to Logan for a game crashed back in 1970.

Yes, I'm sure that will be key :joking:

Actually, when USU played at Wichita a few years back -- I was there with 918AGG and the AGinNEIowa brood -- they did a pre-game meal for Aggie fans and a halftime presentation thanking USU for the love, service and compassion given to WSU players after the plane crash.

There were two planes carrying the 1970 WSU team -- the "Black" one took the original route north over Laramie to gain altitude, but the "Gold" one went south to give those onboard a better look at the Rockies, and it was too heavy to gain enough elevation, and crashed into the mountains west of Denver. Those who made it to Logan learned of the fate of their teammates and boosters, and the USU team members went to their hotel, took them food, made phone calls to their families, and helped them make arrangements to get back to Wichita.

AGinNEIowa had a nice write-up here: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=17257&p=104752

In short: WSU loves USU.

That's pretty neat. I knew that USU did some sort of memorial, but I didn't know the extent to which USU and the community were involved. That's a pretty nice write-up and it's really cool that they're still so appreciative since its been more than 40 years and I'm sure a significant portion of the audience at that game wasn't around when that all went down.

I always thought TCU never should have been in it in the first place.

That was the wac when they were struggling to stay alive in football.

Um, no. La Tech was in the WAC before USU was. TCU was in the WAC from 1996-2001 (before USU's time in the Sun Belt) and the Mountain West from 2005-2012. You're thinking of UT San Antonio and Texas St.

The point remains, both the WAC and Mountain West have looked far east of the rocky mountains in the past and may do so again, if the need arises.

Fair enough, I still think it makes little sense to expand at all. If we were to expand, it should be one of the Montana schools or UTEP.
