Online Sports Betting
I'm interested in placing some bets online this season and I've never done so before. Is there anyone that can help explain the process? You can PM me if it's easier.

Re: Online Sports Betting
I believe that betting online may be illegal in Utah ? TVG is a online betting site for horse racing, I like the ponies, but as a Utah resident I can not register to wager.

Don't PM him. I want to hear as well. I've got some money in the stock market that I play around with, but I want to diversify my investments. That's what betting on sports is, right? An investment?

My experience is place a bet, lose your money, have some hacker steal your card info. While I can’t prove it was the sports betting website the hacker stole the information from, I know they were trying to place bets online. It was also one of a very few places I used that card.aggies22 wrote:I'm interested in placing some bets online this season and I've never done so before. Re: Online Sports Betting
The sites that are off shore have always made me worry. The sites in the USA that I know and trust will not take bets from Utah. There arer decent sports bets in Wendover, and I know Idaho is looking at sports betting.

I use bovada. Have an app on my phone. It's a bit of a pain to put money on the account (I have to buy bit coin then pay with bit coin) but I only bet a few bucks max per game and never put more than 30 bucks on that site. Had about 200 bucks at one point but now I floating around 50 bucks. I'm not that good betting on basketball. I am much better betting football.

I've been looking at Bovada. What more can you tell me about it? How long does it take to pay out?bigblue wrote: ↑July 10th, 2018, 6:34 pmI use bovada. Have an app on my phone. Re: Online Sports Betting
A friend of mine uses Bovada and has a separate bank account to fund it, so he can keep a minimal amount in that account and not worry too much about it getting hacked. He also funds it once a year and cashes out once a year, putting in $500 at the beginning and then whatever is there in November/December he takes out to buy Christmas presents for the kids if there's anything left over.
If I remember correctly, Bovada sends a physical check and typically takes about 3 weeks to get it since it's coming from outside the US. Another friend told me that banks are sometimes hesitant to deposit those checks, so it's best to go to the counter and say you sold something, rather than say it's from gambling winnings. I dunno though, I've not tried yet.

Re: Online Sports Betting
They add your winnings to your account on Bovada with in a few minutes of the results of the sports bet. Bets on horses sometimes take longer. They also offer live betting during select games. I have never withdrew any money so I'm glad to read the post above about that. They also have a casino, I would stay away from that. They have improved their poker rooms. I play poker on there quite a bit. All and all I have enjoyed the site. I do recommend adding money with bit coin. If you don't own bit coin it usually takes a week to get money from your personal account into bit coin. I use coinbase for that.aggies22 wrote:I've been looking at Bovada. Re: Online Sports Betting
My uncle Larry wrote a book titled "Investing in College Basketball". The book shows how the returns (winnings) from investing in college basketball can be far greater than investing in stocks and bonds. Below is a link to the book if you would like to check it out. If you're Mormon an additional benefit to investing in college sports is the fact that the Mormon Church will not accept tithing on this type of investment so you get to keep the 10% that would normally be donated to the church had you invested in the stock market. The additional 10% combined with compound interest adds up quickly and makes investing in college sports much more advantageous than investing in the stock market. It's really a win win situation. Not to mention watching games is much funner that watching the stock market.

Re: Online Sports Betting
Never done it myself, but here are some thoughts.
The bitcoin route is the safest way to go. There is a lag in the time it takes to get bitcoin through Coinbase or your preferred site, but once you have the bitcoin you can easily deposit it into a Bovada account. Getting paid out through bitcoin is quicker than the physical check, takes about a week or so. Utilizing Coinbase the money can be deposited right into your bank account.
Read the fine print on any deposit "bonus" that is advertised. In many instances if you take a bonus, you have to wager 5 to 15 times (called rollover) the amount of your deposit plus the bonus before you can withdraw any winnings. For example, a popular bonus is 50% added to your deposit. You deposit $400 and the site gives you $200 "free" so you now have $600 in your account. It sounds good, but if you accept that free money you now have to wager $3000 (5x rollover is typical) before you can withdraw anything.

Re: Online Sports Betting
Bitcoin is relatively anonymous virtual currency. Basically Coinbase is like a bank account, bitcoin is internet currency, you buy bitcoin on Coinbase with a debit card/bank account and then you can transfer it to other Bitcoin "wallets" to pay for things. In this case, you'd be giving the sports betting site your Bitcoin at a current exchange rate for US dollars to deposit onto the site to bet with. When you want to withdraw you can withdraw via bitcoin to Coinbase, and then sell the bitcoin for US dollars.aggies22 wrote: ↑July 12th, 2018, 7:19 amThat is fantastic information, thank you! It's a way around depositing money directly with a credit card/bank account to the betting website, since it's technically illegal.

Re: Online Sports Betting
This is kind of what I've decided to go with. I'm not in this to get the villa in Antigua but I would like to make a few extra bucks and I think I can pull it off. Most of my wagering will be on the moneyline and not the spread. The spread can get too dicey and I'm admittedly taking the safer route.

Re: Online Sports Betting
I would love to hear what games you are betting the moneyline on.
I took the plunge and put $65 worth of bitcoin on https://nitrogensports.eu/ - It's a completely anonymous site that only deals with bitcoin. Your bets remain in bitcoin and your winnings are in bitcoin. Therefore, you are playing the bitcoin market at the same time that you are placing bets on the games.
I am a newbie to sports betting and am trying to decide what percentage of my bankroll ($65) I should wager each bet. I am thinking something like 4% of my bankroll per bet.
