Coaches that failed or succeeded that suprised you?
What coaches at any school or pro team surprised you with the job they did?
One that surprised me in the negative direction was Rich Rod at Michigan. After his success at West Virginia to completely bomb at Michigan was a surprise. Yeah it was gonna take time for him to overhaul the system, but a good coach should not go 6-18 in the conference at Michigan.
The coach that surprised me in the positive direction was Dabo Swinney. The reason I thought of this topic as he is playing in his 4th straight playoff and going for his 2nd national title and absolutely dominated the ACC. Yet he was an interim coach who had no coordinator or head coaching experience when given the job. He wasn't a "home run hire" by any means yet you could argue he is the second best coach in the sport.

Urban Meyer at Utah (started with Bowling Green really). Like him or not, the dude had it figured out (ethics be damned maybe).

I was surprised that Matt Wells figured things out last season. I thought for sure we were stuck with him going 6-6 for the next 5 seasons.

Coach Patterson did wonders for the defense.sam tingey wrote: ↑January 8th, 2019, 6:44 amI was surprised that Matt Wells figured things out last season. I thought for sure we were stuck with him going 6-6 for the next 5 seasons.
