will their failure at Independence result in instability

with the MW - meaning another conference is created with an exodus of certain members?

Do we end up with them in our conference?

Or do they end up in an eastern footprint conference?

You can’t really make a new conference anymore (at least no one would join them).

I think they end up in the AAC in 6-7 years (announce in 4).

Yeah. Why would a school in Colorado want to be playing in a conference with schools from New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming, and Utah?

So now Calhoun’s winning isn’t limited to acting like a two year on in the sideline all game long?

How exactly are they not a good fit? Geographically, the MWC is an absolutely perfect fit, but maybe he’s referring to how different an academy is to other schools...? Maybe he can take them to the Big Sky, Greeley is a tad bit closer to Colorado Springs than Fort Collins. OOC games can be NMSU, UTEP, and Western State lol

Callhloun is smoking crack (throw him in the brig) for thinking AFA is not a good fit regionally. Does he really see the academy a better fit with schools located east of the Rockies???

ybu to AAC makes absolutely NO sense at all, which is why I could see them doing it. That way the likes of USF can beat them EVERY year instead of just two years. And agreed, making a new conference is tough. I can see ybu trying to pull off a FB only conference with Bozo and SDSU and then trying to cherry pick from the AAC, but good luck with that.

YBU is always a concern when it come to conference alignment, They have become very close to Boise in fact they have more games scheduled in the future than what they have with USU at the present time.

The future T.V. contract is a bone of contention with MWC membership, some want more dollars others want better start times.

If a new conference ever happens I would not be certain that USU will be a member if YBU joins.

I think Howdy duty wants the AFA to go indy in football instead of AAC, and perhaps they could put the other sports in the summit conference. I doubt that that would happen, but who knows.

We can be certain of two things: (a) yBu is and never will be satisfied with her associations and conference partners; and (b) yBu will scream, tantrum, and screw absolutely anybody and everybody in order to get what they want right now like the toddlers they are.

I don’t see much instability from Air Force complaining. Even if Calhoon got his way and Air Force left the conference, the Mountain West can sit back and wait for BYU to determine when they end their Indy experience. If Air Force stays, nothing changes.

As far as BYU. I don’t think they have as much pull as they think they do. They aren’t getting a Boise like deal, and I think the gap between the BYU TV contract and the Mountain West TV co tract narrows with the TV deals being finalized. I do want to know if ESPN is holding up the BYU has anything to do with the Mountain West.

I do think there needs to be some kind of pressure put on boise to do away with their sweetheart media deal. That's not fair to the rest of the members of the conference. I could see it for 3 or 4 years to bring boise back, but to have the deal go in perpetuity does not make any sense and just gives boise an advantage in the conference.

Agreed re: Boise. They need to have the same deal as everyone else. If they can find a better deal elsewhere, great. Football tends to be cyclical. They won't be on top forever.

As for BYU, I would rather not be in the same conference. And mean that sincerely. They bring instability by their very presence. They'll always be looking for greener grass. I get that everyone wants what is best for themselves, but they inherently believe the MWC is beneath them. That is not a recipe for conference stability.
