What in the big blue is gwaggies.
Apparently gwaggies is a catchphrase. It’s supposed to be what “go aggies” sounds likeHere are all the reasons I think it’s not a good idea.
1. It does not sound like “go aggies” it sounds like guh waggies” I’m not a freakin waggie. At best it sounds like a toddler cheering for the aggies. “Go Aggies” sounds like Go Aggies. The “O” in “Go” has the long sound.
2. It looks like we’re the GW Aggies.
3. It’s a bad look for recruiting our students. We saved 0 letters. All we did is spell “go” incorrectly. That makes us look like “Kars for Kids”.
4. “Go Aggies” is fine but it’s not original to begin with. Spelling it wrong doesn’t make it original.
5. If BYU ever found out people say “gwaggies” those Tigers would call us the “Gwaggies” forever. They’d probably make it sound like they’re puking too. It’d get old really fast.
Yes, this bothers me more than it probably should. But no on gwaggies

I saw those shirts. I think it is stupid. I will not buy any of those.

Saying "sqwaggies" was a thing when I was a freshman.

We did the same thing at Northern Colorado, everyone said “scobears”
It’s a passing fad that the kids are into, and kids are weird. It’s not that bad. I won’t get the t-shirt they make for it, and lucky for me there are plenty of other options at the campus store
Will respond whenever you ask what the band is doing

That is great news. I don't participate in social media giveaways. I'm in the clear.QuackAttackAggie wrote: ↑June 23rd, 2020, 8:28 pmYou're in luck, they're only for social media giveaways apparentlyNVAggie wrote:I saw those shirts. I think it is stupid. I will not buy any of those.

I don't like it either. As soon as I saw the shirts I started trying to figure out what it meant...when I couldn't I messaged treesap to see if he knew and he didn't. If you read the comments on the Facebook post people are confused by it as well. I had to reach out to USU directly to find out the meaning. In marketing if your message isn't readily apparent then you've failed big time and as creative as they think they are being, this is a fail.

I find this all funny that people are bent out of shape about something so simple and stupid. It's something students started using. The university didn't just wake up one day and announce they wanted to use this phrase. Students started using it and it became more and more common. So this is a way the university is showing support for something they see the students already doing. I don't think you have to love the phrase and if you didn't hear about it before, now you know. Secondly, it's just a t-shirt. lol You all are acting like we're never going to use the phrase go Aggies ever again.

Re: What in the big blue is gwaggies.
As a recent graduate, I've heard and seen 'gwaggies' since about 2016. Each year with a little more. I haven't been on campus in a while but I imagine its gotten even bigger. I personally have said it and used it a fair amount. It goes well with the two handed horns (like they show on the shirts.) Students want to have a cool slogan/hand sign like almost all of the major programs have. 'Gwaggies' is a silly phrase but so is 'Roll Tide', 'Gig em', 'Hook em', 'Charge on', etc.
All y'all can chill. Let students like things that they like.

I think it’s pretty dumb and don’t get it, but whatever. If there are people who like it, that’s fine.
As an aside, I’ve been very unimpressed with whoever it is running the @USUAggies twitter account this year. Like, how are you running an official university account if you don’t know how to run a poll?

Not all accounts can do polls. Twitter thing not the person running the account.stang wrote:I think it’s pretty dumb and don’t get it, but whatever. If there are people who like it, that’s fine.

Re: What in the big blue is gwaggies.
That's what I've settled on. I don't understand it at all, don't particularly like it, but I'm not the target market. If the students like it right now, whatever, enjoy. I will keep wearing my boring Go Aggies shirts and they can have Gwaggies. If it gets them wearing blue in the stands, even better.
