Re: Tatis
The unwritten rules of baseball are just plain stupid. It was awesome to see him hit that grand slam.

Re: Tatis
If the argument is that he extended the game and ran up the score- he’s also more likely to pop out or hit into an inning ending double play- which would have made the game go quicker.Aggie84025 wrote: ↑August 18th, 2020, 8:39 pmThe unwritten rules of baseball are just plain stupid. These unwritten rules always favor primadonna pitchers.
Plus his steal was crazy.

Re: Tatis
Yep. How can you even "run up the score" in baseball with no clock? What do you want him to do, not swing?Aggie84025 wrote: ↑August 18th, 2020, 8:39 pmThe unwritten rules of baseball are just plain stupid. It was awesome to see him hit that grand slam.
Is the other team going to also cooperate and not try and win when they get up to bat? Cleveland Indians came back and beat the Mariners 15 years ago when they were down 12 runs; bigger than the current controversy. Yeah it is rare, but you never know in baseball. This isn't Alabama beating Western Carolina 52-0 with 5 minutes left.

Re: Tatis
Of all teams, the Rangers aren't one to complain about running up the score. This thing really was blown way out of proportion. You have 2 stupid coaches that said it was wrong which led to a player giving an apology that he should have never given but I haven't seen any other players, coaches or media that think he did anything wrong by swinging the bat. Comebacks happen in baseball all the time. The Rangers hadn't stopped trying to score so why should the Padres?

Re: Tatis
I mean I guess in theory if during a blowout both teams mutually agreed they wanted the game to be over and played the end of the game as a formality where no player swung, then ok. Something like that would likely never happen in the MLB, but I could see that happening at a lower level if the score was like 25-0 or something. Unless you are going to do that, no player can be faulted for swinging when you are up to bat. This is baseball, it is hard enough to get a hit as it is. I can't imagine just not trying.

Re: Tatis
The Braves also left 17 men on base that game too. It could have been much worse.

Re: Tatis
That game has so many interesting stats. The Marlins brought Jordan Yamamoto in for relief in that game. he pitched 2 2/3 innings. He threw 94 pitches in less than 3 innings, gave up 11 hits (4 of which were home runs), 2 walks, and 13 runs (12 earned). That is not a good stat line for a pitcher.Aggie formerly in Hawaii wrote: ↑September 14th, 2020, 8:51 amYeah that game doesn't even seem real.breadysmith wrote: ↑September 13th, 2020, 9:15 pmThe Braves also left 17 men on base that game too. Re: Tatis
Yeah it is like the opposite of Donovan Mitchell in the first round series against the Nuggets. Mitchell had possibly the best offensive series in NBA history. Yamamoto might have had the worst 3 innings in MLB history for a pitcher. It is amazing he wasn't taken out. A lot of weird things about that game.Yossarian wrote: ↑September 14th, 2020, 10:11 amThat game has so many interesting stats. Re: Tatis
I agree completely. I didn't know it was an unwritten rule. That goes contrary to the "it isn't over till its over"Imakeitrain wrote: ↑August 18th, 2020, 8:14 pmGotta love Tatis! Dude has been raking!

You’re being paid to play this sport. I don’t feel that sorry when you’re that awful in a professional sports setting.
