Re: byu-p = Hawaii
Yeah that is a lot of travel for byu's secondary sports. If the Big 10 or ACC come to poach a few teams, I don't see this conference surviving. The cost-benefit analysis doesn't support a G5 cross country league.

Re: byu-p = Hawaii
We all know that most of the BYU fans in road stadiums didn't make the trip from Provo.
For BYU, I don't see it as much of a difference than playing in the WCC as far as travel for teams. They were flying anyway.

Which is probably why my scenario of adding Memphis does not work either.Aggie formerly in Hawaii wrote: ↑September 9th, 2021, 10:44 pmYeah that is a lot of travel for byu's secondary sports. Worst case scenario for that league is they just poach other teams if the ACC or Big 10 come callingAggie formerly in Hawaii wrote: ↑September 9th, 2021, 10:44 pmYeah that is a lot of travel for byu's secondary sports. Re: byu-p = Hawaii
The good news is there are great travel destinations in the conference for their fans to make a mini-vacation out of to make the long travel worthwhile. Who wouldn't want to make the trip Lawrence, Manhattan, Ames, Lubbock, Cincinnati, or Stillwater to see the sights and take in the wonderful scenery or enjoy the entertainment of those cities? It's a win.Aggie formerly in Hawaii wrote: ↑September 9th, 2021, 10:44 pmYeah that is a lot of travel for byu's secondary sports. Oh, and Waco, too. That would be a good chance for the craftsy Provo types to visit Magnolia Farms.

Re: byu-p = Hawaii
Yeah that is an argument people are making but i just dont buy that for a watered down non power league. There has to be some benefit to traveling across country regularly. If the big 12 gets poached again, adding south Florida and Memphis doesnt make them a power conference or get them a better TV deal. It does make traveling much more difficult for not much benefit.GameFAQSAggie wrote: ↑September 10th, 2021, 10:03 amWorst case scenario for that league is they just poach other teams if the ACC or Big 10 come callingAggie formerly in Hawaii wrote: ↑September 9th, 2021, 10:44 pmYeah that is a lot of travel for byu's secondary sports. Re: byu-p = Hawaii
I'm curious how much losing Texas and OU and adding the 4 wannabe's water's down the tv contract. Has to be pretty substantial. You lose 2 top 10 programs and add programs probably in the 45-65 range and meanwhile not having a true top level program in the conference. It really is not much better than a strong G5 conference. Plus you then have to travel from Orlando to Provo to the upper midwest.Aggie formerly in Hawaii wrote: ↑September 10th, 2021, 12:35 pmYep and at that point you arent going to be making much money.slcagg wrote: ↑September 10th, 2021, 12:34 pmIt’s all about the money.Aggie formerly in Hawaii wrote: ↑September 10th, 2021, 12:15 pmYeah that is an argument people are making but i just dont buy that for a watered down non power league. Re: byu-p = Hawaii
Yep and that is why I dont think it can get watered down anymore at all and still be viable. It already is a fringe power conference as is. If the big ten takes a few teams, it just becomes the AAC only with more expensive travel.slcagg wrote: ↑September 10th, 2021, 12:40 pmI'm curious how much losing Texas and OU and adding the 4 wannabe's water's down the tv contract.
