The Mighty SEC
SEC is 0-3 in their bowl games to this point and Texas Tech is blowing out Mississippi St as I type this. Are they all just missing a bunch of players or is the SEC not much better than everyone else outside of Alabama?

Re: The Mighty SEC
So many subplots going on in the Liberty Bowl. Wells fired and interim coach lighting things up. Mike Leach fired by Texas Tech way back and getting his a$$ handed to him in lieu of ironic vengeance he sought. Miss State with Leach looks just like WSU used to; one dimensional. Out score the opponent is Leach’s only defense. And Miss State/WSU are practically the same color uniforms!

Re: The Mighty SEC
The SEC earned their reputation by having Alabama, Florida, LSU win championships, and they keep winning. I’m sure it helps having 7-8 home games and 4-5 away/neutral. Mississippi State had 5 away games with OOC games at Memphis, and home versus NC State, LaTech, and Tennessee St. I wouldn’t be surprised to watch the SEC struggle in bowl games this year even though they are currently favored in 6 of the 8 remaining bowl games.

Re: The Mighty SEC
If we had a full playoff I honestly wonder how many they'd win. Don't get me wrong, the SEC is a good conference. Under the BCS model though it always ended up being the SEC Champion vs someone else. With only 1 game and an SEC team guaranteed to be there they had really good odds to win it every year. They've still won a few with the expanded playoff but once again, they are always represented with at least 1 spot and sometimes 2. With a full 16 team playoff I don't think you'd see them win at the rate that they currently do.Full wrote: ↑December 28th, 2021, 8:28 pmThe SEC earned their reputation by having Alabama, Florida, LSU win championships, and they keep winning. Re: The Mighty SEC
About five or six years ago, someone published an analysis of the SEC in the BCS era. When SEC teams ventured outside of SEC territory, they were surprisingly mediocre. The SEC played significantly fewer OOC road games than other BCS conferences in the BCS era. For one example, during the BCS era (1998-2013), mighty Alabama ventured outside of SEC territory for true, OOC road games, on only four occasions. One of those trips was to play Duke in Durham, NC, so BARELY outside of SEC territory. Alabama was a paltry 2-2 in those four games. Florida has not left the State of Florida for a regular season OOC game in over 30 years now (a September 1991 game against Syracuse). The Gators are scheduled to venture outside of Florida for a regular season OOC game for the first time in 32 years in September 2023 when they visit the Utes in Salt Lake City. Yes, the SEC is probably the best overall conference. Yes, they do have more players drafted in the NFL than other conferences. But they are not THAT much better than other conferences. ESPN has spent 25+ years pushing the narrative that the SEC is so much better because of their investment in the conference, which has driven everything to favor the SEC.ProvoAggie wrote: ↑December 29th, 2021, 11:45 amIf we had a full playoff I honestly wonder how many they'd win. Re: The Mighty SEC
It looks like the Gamecocks were able to pull out a win for the SEC. Their first bowl win if the year.
I just started watching Tennessee-Purdue after the half. I have to say - the offense Tennessee runs looks very similar to that of USU.

The SEC is top heavy. It’s Alabama and Georgia and then everybody else.

Re: The Mighty SEC
Disagree. Alabama and Georgia are clearly the top teams in the country (yawn...). But outside of the occasional run by Auburn or LSU, nobody else in the SEC has really set the world on fire in well over a decade. They have all just ridden the coattails of Alabama.

The school down south will find this out too when they join the G6 powerhouse Big 12 and finish middle of the pack every year at best in all of the marque sports, and their fans upset that there are no easy game to travel to away from home.918AGG wrote: ↑January 10th, 2022, 3:52 pmThis will all change when Texas and Oklahoma join the conference...swordsman1989 wrote: ↑January 1st, 2022, 2:51 amDisagree. Its funny you say that because I watched this game for like 10 minutes and I saw Tennessee run the same "look at the sidelines, direct snap to the RB" play that we ran in our bowl- It was cool to see.

Re: The Mighty SEC
Ok. I have a new wish for the SEC (hear me out). I want the addition of Oklahoma to cause some more losses for the top teams in the conference (more parity). With the SEC blocking playoff expansion, it would be great to watch the other P5 conferences have enough 0 or 1 loss teams to keep the SEC out of the current version of the playoff. Of course, this will likely play out just like my hopes for BYU's fall during independence (similar to how being an indy worked out for USU and Idaho).918AGG wrote: ↑January 10th, 2022, 3:52 pmThis will all change when Texas and Oklahoma join the conference...swordsman1989 wrote: ↑January 1st, 2022, 2:51 amDisagree. The narrative will become that a four loss SEC team will be better than a one loss Big Ten or ACC team.Full wrote: ↑January 11th, 2022, 3:02 pmOk. I have a new wish for the SEC (hear me out). Re: The Mighty SEC
Agreed. All conference champions need to get in. ALL conference champions. If a 4 loss SEC team gets left out and feels like it should get in, I am sure the MAC, or CUSA would gladly welcome that school to the conference, where they can dominate and get in the playoff each and every year.3rdGenAggie wrote: ↑January 11th, 2022, 9:20 pmWhich is why we need an expanded playoff.swordsman1989 wrote: ↑January 11th, 2022, 8:50 pmThe narrative will become that a four loss SEC team will be better than a one loss Big Ten or ACC team.Full wrote: ↑January 11th, 2022, 3:02 pmOk.
