RIP John Madden

The greatest football legend has passed away.
Won 75.9 % of the games that he coached for the Raiders over 10 years. Best % in NFL history
The best football personality ever.
The Madden game has his name for good reason since he was part of making the game.

There's a 30 for 30 podcast about Madden that is really interesting.

The Christmas day Madden special was really good.

FYI: Madden mentions in his book that he was considering an offer to coach at Utah State and was packing to travel when he was offered/accepted a job at San Diego State. It would have been at the end or just after John Ralston's USU tenure as HC

Madden was a double or triple A personality type. People I know who encountered him came away surprised by their interactions with him. His casual look, sense of humor and friendly smile put you at ease. Underneath his outward appearance, Madden was intense, extremely smart, and charismatic. Knew how to get his way in any situation. On the field as a coach or on the job as a real estate developer, or as president of the Blackhawk homeowners association.

Madden was not only a great coach, he changed sports broadcasting - at least football. He was the transition from the Howard Cosell and early Al Michaels types of broadcaster that were very matter of fact and monotone. Madden brought personality and excitement to a game from the broadcasting booth. He was not a polished speaker, but he spoke to the every man football fan. He was one of a kind.
