Wow Gymnastics!
Wow the Women's Gymnastics team had another Great meet. To take 2nd in a Quad meet with 3 other ranked P5 teams is fantastic. Follower their Twitter. https://t.co/wHWV2FiBga

Re: Wow Gymnastics!
Where does Gymnastics do their training? I assume they train in the Field House or HPER...

When I was in school - it was in the HPER. They always took up one or two of the gyms when we were trying to play pick-up basketball games.

Re: Wow Gymnastics!
They did but they put up a high score on the road which apparently means something more significant than winning would have. I didn't catch the reasoning but I watched it on TV.coolag wrote:They lost to BYU. Scrap the program!!!

Re: Wow Gymnastics!
I was at the meet at BYU. They had a really good crowd turnout in a really (I can't express myself without swearing) venue (I have no idea why they use the fieldhouse instead of the Marriott Center). My girls had a blast and the team performed really well. There really wasn't anyone that messed up.

Re: Wow Gymnastics!
They have a dedicated room in the HPER that was renovated in the summer of 2016, I believe. It's pretty nice.
Here's a snapshot of it:
The system for qualifying for NCAA regionals is you take your top six scores, three of which HAVE to be road scores, then you drop the highest score, and average the remaining five. The top 36 teams in this ranking system, I believe, go to NCAA regionals. So good road scores are very important.QuackAttackAggie wrote: ↑January 31st, 2022, 4:55 pmThey did but they put up a high score on the road which apparently means something more significant than winning would have. Re: Wow Gymnastics!
Judging gymnastics is pretty subjective. It's like judging a dance or cheerleading routine. If no one messes up and everyone does a flawless performance, it's essentially a coin toss with the home team getting the advantage.

Re: Wow Gymnastics!
It's not as bad as it used to be. They start with a set score and if they do X or Y they get a predefined number of points added or subtracted. There was a byu gymnast who stepped out of bounds on the floor and should have lost 0.1 points for it but didn't. Besides that it didn't seem like the commentators ever disagreed with a decision.ViAggie wrote:Judging gymnastics is pretty subjective. It's like judging a dance or cheerleading routine. Re: Wow Gymnastics!
Yeah, I went to the Utah-Oklahoma meet a few weeks ago. The meet started with Utah on vault, and the very first gymnast stepped halfway to Park City on the landing and still got a 9.8. I'm about as far from an expert on gymnastics and how routines are scored as you can get, but you could pretty much tell how the night was going to go from that point on.

Re: Wow Gymnastics!
a step is worth .1 points I think, so it could be that her particular vault was worth 9.9 on the scale, she executed the vault, then lost .1 for the landing. Some events let you take a step and some don't. I think it is the floor that allows it.aggieguy13 wrote: ↑February 1st, 2022, 11:25 amYeah, I went to the Utah-Oklahoma meet a few weeks ago. Re: Wow Gymnastics!
I watched the other day vs byu for a bit. Brie Clark is super talented. Not sure how she didn’t end up at alabama.QuackAttackAggie wrote: ↑February 21st, 2022, 9:54 pmUp to 14th with one gymnast ranked 2nd nationally in the floor routine https://utahstateaggies.com/news/2022/2 ... no-14.aspx
