Re: USU Women's Bball
A better question. Are there any Mountain West teams whose biggest margin of victory over a Mountain West opponent was NOT against USU?

Re: USU Women's Bball
just putting this here. i know this is not even a comparison that should be made, but... i understand this is a #2 vs #6 game but iowa vs ohio state attendance 15500!!! crazy numbers and the average price per ticket was something insane like 400+ per ticket!!

Re: USU Women's Bball
Yep, we obviously can't compare our team/league/level of competition to Iowa and Ohio State, but I do think that just shows proof that there is interest for women's basketball when it's good and there are clear cut story lines. Iowa literally sold out its entire season and draws insane numbers on television.tipitup wrote: ↑March 4th, 2024, 8:59 amjust putting this here. i know this is not even a comparison that should be made, but... i understand this is a #2 vs #6 game but iowa vs ohio state attendance 15500!!! crazy numbers and the average price per ticket was something insane like 400+ per ticket!!
While our program will never get to that point, I truly do believe women's basketball is going to continue to grow in America and with a competitive team we could definitely get 3-4K people at our games.

Re: USU Women's Bball
Wyoming and New Mexico draw the biggest crowds, over 2000 average. CSU averages over 1000 and Nevada might too. I’d say most teams are 800-1000 usually.

Re: USU Women's Bball
UNLV beat SDSU by 52 points, I'm expecting either a similar game with us or they'll bring in the Arbor View Aggies to take care of us on Wednesday. The good news is that the end of this debacle is coming to an end! My guess is Sunday directly after we're bounced from the tourney.

ya i'm sure that helped!! I know that it's an unfair comparison to any other womens bball game or almost mens game for that matter. but still 15500!!!!! we would have to have people in the rafters and cut a hole in the roof to get that many!hvaggie wrote: ↑March 4th, 2024, 5:00 pmshoresy wrote: ↑March 4th, 2024, 10:03 amYep, we obviously can't compare our team/league/level of competition to Iowa and Ohio State, but I do think that just shows proof that there is interest for women's basketball when it's good and there are clear cut story lines. That def played a role, but let’s not forget a number of big 10 teams draw big wbb crowds (SEC too). It’s definitely possible!tipitup wrote: ↑March 5th, 2024, 11:15 amya i'm sure that helped!! Didnt they also give up a 26-0 run to Boise earlier this season? The things this team does never cease to be ridiculously embarrassing. and it’s coaching problem. As we’ve stated again and again.

Unlv is a very good team but that loss…well, the margin of that loss, was an us thing. Not a unlv is really THAT good thing.

and that was AFTER they allowed the Arbor View Aggies girls BB team to play in the 2nd half.
I was going to suggest we fire Ard after the game on Sunday, but now I think we should forfeit the conf. game and stay home, fire her now.

You might be on to something.
I don't know how much it would save exactly, but I would think between flights, hotels, busses and food for 20ish people that's gotta be somewhere in the $10-15K range, right? Put that towards her buyout.

And the next coach needs to have a much more school friendly buyout. Arkansas has a clause where the buyout drops to 50% if the coach has a below.500 record. That should be the policy for the next coach at USUshoresy wrote: ↑March 6th, 2024, 1:38 pmYou might be on to something.

Re: USU Women's Bball
Dang. BTW They were up 49-14 at the half! Before half time, they had more points than we even scored in the game. As if the 60 point drubbing wasn't bad enough. I'm not kidding about Arbor View, I think had UNLV put them on the court in the 2nd half we still would have lost. by 40+ points. That's not a joke. But we sure are!Aggie formerly in Hawaii wrote: ↑March 6th, 2024, 2:01 pmAnother reason why the contract was so ludicrous. I've always been a little bit surprised that there aren't more performance-based buyout clauses, especially in smaller sports.Aggie formerly in Hawaii wrote: ↑March 6th, 2024, 1:55 pmAnd the next coach needs to have a much more school friendly buyout. Like, if you've been here four years and you've been the 11 seed three of those years, we just go our separate ways and call it good. Or, if you lose a game to a conference rival by 60 points, you have to pay back every penny we've ever given you and return your gear on the way out.

Yes the Ard years have seen new lows for women’s BASKETBALL but this thread makes it seem like women’s basketball has actually been good at one point. It’s always been bad. That doesn’t excuse Ard at all but this thread wants to buy her out and also increase Sprinkle’s pay and charter flights and increase assistant salaries
We aren’t flush with cash have to have priorities and choices.

Re: USU Women's Bball
Dude, a Cache Valley HS Girls BB all star team would beat us! A Utah Girls HS BB all star team would RUTS us. How hard would it be to recruit a half way decent team at USU???? How the hell is it that Utah Valley (aka Orem Tech) and Old Dixie State can out recruit us?????? How is that????????? We're a destination school, not some two-bit commuter school for kids who couldn't get into ybu. I bet I could show up to campus and put together a club team that would beat Ard's team. Pathetic. She needs to be fired like yesterday.SpectrumMagic wrote: ↑March 7th, 2024, 8:26 amYes the Ard years have seen new lows for women’s BASKETBALL but this thread makes it seem like women’s basketball has actually been good at one point. Re: USU Women's Bball
100% I hear you BUT it is possible to have a competent team. Look at how CSU won 4 consecutive conference titles when they hired Williams. UNLV has now won 3 after hiring Lindy La Rocque. It’s worth hiring the right person, putting a competent product on the floor instead of one that’s an embarrassment.SpectrumMagic wrote: ↑March 7th, 2024, 8:26 amYes the Ard years have seen new lows for women’s BASKETBALL but this thread makes it seem like women’s basketball has actually been good at one point.
