MIDNIGHT TRAIN - are you there?
MIDNIGHT TRAIN - are you there?
Please give us hope... is something happening with USU and the Mt West?
Re: MIDNIGHT TRAIN - are you there?
MT Was very wrong last time if I remember right. As it seems to me, he still thought that there might be a rapid invite after many of us were so down and out.
Still it would be cool to have some insider information.

I assume he/she is still around, but I wouldn't expect to hear from MT until something imminent is upon us.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Re: MIDNIGHT TRAIN - are you there?
My best guess is that the Mountain West is waiting until the end of the football season to make their next move, but again, my sources out of Colorado Springs are telling me that the MWC will move to 12 teams and Utah State is likely one of them with either UTEP or Houston being the other.
P.S. Hawaii is already in the Mountain West for football-only.

We may not have Midnight Train with us anymore... But I would even settle for Thomas the train engine at this point in time.

What MT thought, when he came back with the second post, was that BYU and ESPN were teaming up to form a conference.Quelch wrote:MT Was very wrong last time if I remember right. As it seems to me, he still thought that there might be a rapid invite after many of us were so down and out.

Re: MIDNIGHT TRAIN - are you there?
MWC has already said it will be evaluating going to 12 teams this January (so after the season). This will include talks of if they should and potential teams. SMU, Houston, UTEP, and USU were listed by 'inside' sources as teams that would be looked at. This was said before TCU's departure, though they probably already anticipated that.

Re: MIDNIGHT TRAIN - are you there?
I still think (it's more hope) that the thoughts towards luring SMU and Houston to the MWC was geared towards to keeping TCU from leaving. Now that TCU is gone I'd hope the MWC wouldn't be looking at going that far east into Texas. I know it was just the Boise/Fresno/Nevada fans saying they prefered the MWC over WAC due to travel but if that was the thinking of those schools Presidents what difference does it make to then add both Hawaii and expand into Houston when they could just go with USU/UTEP and cut the travel down. With TCU out of the picture if the Presidents really want a regional conference USU/UTEP makes the most sense.

In fairness to Midnight Train; the deal to form a new conference with ESPN almost happened. This was reported in the Salt Lake media (remember Scott Gerrard talking about it).

Just a small town girl
Livin' in a lonely world
She took the midnight train going anywhere
Just a city boy
Born and raised in South Detroit
He took the midnight train going anywhere
A singer in a smoken room
The smell of wine and cheap perfume
For a smile they can share the night
It goes on and on and on and on
(Chorus)
Strangers waiting
Up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searching in the night
Streetlights people
Living just to find emotion
Hiding, somewhere in the night
Working hard to get my fill
Everybody wants a thrill
Payin' anything to roll the dice
Just one more time
Some will win, some will lose
Some were born to sing the blues
Oh, the movie never ends
It goes on and on and on and on
(Chorus)
Strangers waiting
Up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searching in the night
Streetlight people
Living just to find emotion
Hiding, somewhere in the night
Don't stop believin'
Hold on to the feelin'
Streetlight people
woahhh, woahhhh
Don't stop believin'
Hold on...
Streetlight people
Ohhh, woahhhh
Don't stop believin'
Hold on to that feelin'
Streetlight people

All this train talk reminded me of the Highwaymen singing about the Train the City of New Orleans......
