Doesn't sound like anything will be decided next week.
According to the Idaho Statesman (http://voices.idahostatesman.com/2011/0 ... zz1BVnxUtky), not all university presidents will be attending the meetings. I wonder what that means. The article also states that 6 of 7 presidents must vote for expansion. Sounds like the only ones with votes on expansion are WYO, CSU, AF, SDSU, Boise, UNLV, and NM.
Re: Doesn't sound like anything will be decided next week.
I could be wrong but isnt this refering to whether the game be played at Boise or TCU? I dont think it has to do with expansion. I was thinking next week we may hear something but the closer it gets the more I am realizing that this is FAR from being decided and USU's chances of joining the MWC are a lot worse than 95%. I hope I am dead wrong.

All the presidents don't have to be physically in the same room to vote -- it could be done by telephone or (possibly) by a proxy who had been given voting instructions.

Re: Doesn't sound like anything will be decided next week.
True but the wording indicates that they will be "unavailable." That leads me to believe they aren't ready to vote. I'm just reading between the lines and could be way off. It will be good to read the full article in tomorrow's Statesman.calaggie wrote:All the presidents don't have to be physically in the same room to vote -- it could be done by telephone or (possibly) by a proxy who had been given voting instructions.

Re: Doesn't sound like anything will be decided next week.
I think this is good news. We have a much better chance of being voted in by the old members than by Fresno and Nevada. Also, I've come to not rely much in the Idaho Statesman. Wasn't it their story that said the MWC would not be expanding any further? Well, since then all the MWC has done is look to expand.

Re: Doesn't sound like anything will be decided next week.
Yes, this part was interesting:
It had seemed like the general consensus was that all incoming members would have a vote on further expansion and outgoing members would either not have a vote, or they would just abstain. The seven voting members does make some sense, as anyone invited before the end of June would likely be playing in the 2012 season, the same as Fresno/Nevada/Hawai'i. Still I wonder if the author is getting that information from a source or just assuming.— The Mountain West has meetings Monday and Tuesday in Las Vegas but several presidents are going to be unavailable, which could hinder decision-making. It’s also unclear who is going to vote. Right now, the 2011-12 members except for TCU hold the only voting rights. Six of those seven members must vote in favor of expanding to add a team.
Re: Doesn't sound like anything will be decided next week.
i don't see how this is good news at all. if i understood correctly, they would vote to move the tcu/bosie game to bosie to give the broncos a better chance at winning which helps in their quest to gain AQ status.hipsterdoofus21 wrote:I think this is good news. if the majority (or even 3 or 4) of the board members are still thinking the MWC could get AQ status, i don't see them adding a team that doesn't boost their overall strength rating, which is the only criteria they failed to meet.

Re: Doesn't sound like anything will be decided next week.
that vote is a FU to TCU for leaving the conference. The MWC is looking out for its future and that means giving the teams that will actually still be in the league an advantage if possible

Re: Doesn't sound like anything will be decided next week.
What a dumb idea. I understand why they'd not be interested in promoting TCU as a team leaving the conference, but if they're going to play an 8-game schedule, why not have Boise and TCU play everybody but each other to maximize their wins and minimize the chance of losing? Assuming that neither team loses in OOC play, it gives the MWC a chance to have two potentially top-10 teams going into the post-season simply due to inertia from this past season.Steve509 wrote:i don't see how this is good news at all. if i understood correctly, they would vote to move the tcu/bosie game to bosie to give the broncos a better chance at winning which helps in their quest to gain AQ status.

Re: Doesn't sound like anything will be decided next week.
Actually, doesn't getting TCU to Boise help the current time frame requirement, not the next one? Maybe they are using next year as the final push before expanding to 12 ?
Re: Doesn't sound like anything will be decided next week.
there will only be 8 teams in the MWC next season. the 8 game schedule is for 2012 & 13 when there will be 10 teams.BearLakeMonster wrote:What a dumb idea. No word but how about a small note.
If if comes out of the meeting that they will expand that will mean UTEP is not going to jump yet. We are still in good shape. Will take time to vett another team. If UTEP says they will join USU should get a invite next week.
The worst thing would be in they come out of the meeting saying " no we are not expanding at this time" I don't think this will happen. I think they would be foolish to go this route.

The 8 game schedule sounds more like a 12 team league with 5 division games and 3 crossover games!

By the way WF, if they came out and said that they are not going to expand, would that really be that bad. It seems like they have always said this, right before they expand...

So next week if they expand UTEP will not be included in that expansion but if UTEP accepts then USU gets an invite next week???wacfan08 wrote:

Time for you to set up a twitter account wacfan. Would be much easier.

wacfan, It looks like somebody else signed you up for this mysterious PM. I don't see where you said you would actually send one. if you do, however, please put me on the list.
If you weren't planning on it and don't have any updates, don't worry about it.
Thanks

In the event that a top secret PM list may or may not exist, I may or may not like to know what the future of "the word" is.... Just put me on the list if you decide to go that route.
