Also, they've shady replaced the logos in the corners of the scoreboard. Here is a pic from June. The new ones look great.

No need to replace the seats. Put people in them and nobody will know what color they are anyway.

Disagree. We need to replace the seats! Would you like the chair backs at RS to be yellow, orange and tan? Don't say " it doesn't matter, just fill the seats.BlueShadows wrote:No need to replace the seats. Put people in them and nobody will know what color they are anyway.

Just know that if the seats are replaced then the capacity of the Spectrum will drop quite a bit. That being said, I say I'm the new chairs in the Marriott Center the other night and it was the most comfortable I've been at a basketball game outside the Orleans arena.

I disagree with your disagreement.mcaggie1 wrote:Disagree. We need to replace the seats! Would you like the chair backs at RS to be yellow, orange and tan? There are a number of athletic priorities before we need to worry about the cosmetic things. Besides, the Spectrum seat colors remind me of my mother's macrame from the '70’s!

I partially agree with your disagreement......I made the statement based on the assumption that you were going to spring for the cost of the seats.utaggies wrote:I disagree with your disagreement.mcaggie1 wrote:Disagree. Why would the capacity drop? Bigger chairs?ProvoAggie wrote:Just know that if the seats are replaced then the capacity of the Spectrum will drop quite a bit. They would be required by code to go wider with the seats.AggieAddict wrote:Why would the capacity drop? Hmm, i didn't know they regulated chair sizes. How much wider would they have to be?ProvoAggie wrote:They would be required by code to go wider with the seats.AggieAddict wrote:Why would the capacity drop? Re: The Spectrum upgrades look really nice.
Not sure, but Provo is right. We would lose a good number of seats. I'm not willing to do that. I also think that the legroom is no longer up to code either. That would lose more seats.

If we would all just listen to LKGates we wouldn't have to double anything.

Re: The Spectrum upgrades look really nice.
If we put in new seats we would also have to scoot back the front row of the student section one row. Booo!

I've always thought it would be a good idea to replace the seats in the student section and put in benches, it would make standing a lot more convenient and provide a lot more room. You also would be able to fit more students in.

Re: The Spectrum upgrades look really nice.
One problem with the score ribbon at the top is that the score is partially hidden by the ceiling speakers when you are sitting at about row 20 up. They should have switched the location of the sponsor logos and the scores. Other than that, I love the upgrades!
Re: The Spectrum upgrades look really nice.
No benches. The students have a hard enough time at the football games figuring out if they were sitting on the bench in front of them, or the one behind them. Logically it's the one behind you, as dictated by the front row, but once you get to about row five, all hell breaks loose when it comes to sitting down during timeouts and halftime.swishh_15 wrote:I've always thought it would be a good idea to replace the seats in the student section and put in benches, it would make standing a lot more convenient and provide a lot more room. Re: The Spectrum upgrades look really nice.
Out of curiosity, could additional seating ever be added to The Spectrum without a massive overhaul/rebuild of the entire building? If new seats were installed, reducing capacity, could new seating be added somewhere to get back to (or slightly higher than) current capacity?

Re: The Spectrum upgrades look really nice.
I love the color of the spectrum seats, always have always will. What did the Lobos do with the PIT in Albuquerque? Did they just go UP? We could do that and create a Second Concourse but it would cost a lot of $$$$$$. The reason I like the Spectrum Color is because when I lived in Cache Valley, back when they had harder, Colder winters than they have of late, is that when I would go to an event in the Spectrum the colors just uplifted my spirit. Compared to the EWE, of which the Red gives you a headache, and Cream O'Weber where the Purple is dark and depressing, I will take the cheery color of the Spectrum all the time. Never change the color.
Another reason, I was dating my wife just 6 years after the Spectrum was built. When she came up for her first visit from Hurricane, Utah we had a date in the Spectrum at a concert by The Carpenters and a new goofy comedian named Steve Martin. We then a month later had another date at the Spectrum where we saw Olivia-Newton-John, and the 5th Dimension. Each time my future wife said she loved coming to the Spectrum because it made her feel good cause of the bright colors, but not so bright that you got a headache.
My first time in the Spectrum was the First Basketball game I went to there with my Ole Pop, against Ohio State! I went to several concerts there before I went on an LDS mission which would have been between 1971-1973....John Denver, Nitty Ditty Dirt Band, Bread, come to mind. I have great memories and you'll find that with us old farts that even though the seats are uncomfortable because of our age-extended girth, we would rather have them stay the same. We Farts don't like a big change like that!

What happened to the days when big time concerts would stop at the Spectrum? When I was there the biggest act that came was a washed up Eve 6

Why can't the seats be painted?
We wouldn't lose any capacity and it wouldn't cost that much.

I think paint would not adhere to the plastic as a long-term solution, and would start peeling before long and then look worse than the beautiful fall colors.

Seems like we have new shot clocks on the basketball standarts also, the whole experience was great, I do wish they would of played the music louder, louder is better. Crazy train just isn't very good in medium volume. Blast away.

Re: The Spectrum upgrades look really nice.
Let me go on record that I love the spectrum seats. I hate how so many discussions about the spectrum devolve to the seats. The seats are totally unique and representative of the 70s in which the Spectrum was completed. I like the personality that the seats add to the spectrum. Removing them or painting them would be like removing or revamping old main.
I'm a reasonable man, get off my case.
