How Much?
How Much?
I feel that the lower the amount Gary was offered at Wisconsin, the more it hurts he left. How much do you believe was needed to be offered at Wisconsin for him to leave?
Kevin Graham (take it for what it is worth, I'm not a big fan) reports his salary will start off at $1.8M with $100K increases each year plus other incentives.
IF TRUE, that is much lower of an amount than I thought it would have taken to get GA to leave. Stings a little bit more.
If this has been discussed before, go ahead and merge it.

Re: How Much?
I think it was more about the program he was taking over then the monetary amount. I think Cal offered him similar money and he turned them down.

Re: How Much?
I always thought 2m is the number we'd have to pay him to take money out of consideration.
There are always other reasons someone will leave, and there are many of those reasons with Wisconsin. Wisconsin isn't like Cal and Colorado. There is huge support for Wisconsin football and lot and lots of money for everything (not just coaches salaries). Everything is there so that if coach A does close to what he did here, we could seem Wisconsin playing for the national championship.
Still, if we want to remove money from the list of reasons, we have to get to 2m.

Wow...that absolutely pisses me off even more, only a 1 mil increase? He would be up to that in no time here IMO...screw it.

Re: How Much?
My source said 3.2mill
I don't think it was all money though, which is why he turned down Cal. He wanted a winning team, and I think Wisconsin/Madison fits his lifestyle still.

Still a BS reason IMO. He had a winning team here...and a good lifestyle here.UtahStizzle wrote:My source said 3.2mill

The ONLY reason I can't fault Gary is for looking out for his assistants/Matt Wells. Him leaving means huge pay increases for Aranda and the other assistants going with him, and it means Matt Wells can get the HC job here. That's the only thing I can say about GA's decision is worthy of praise. Everything else bothers me. 1.8 mil base? After saying it wasn't about the money? Did he really think he wouldn't continue to see pay increases for him and his assistants here? Didn't even give us a chance...

It was obviously not enough to concern Wisconsin.MetsJetsAggies wrote:Whatever it is, it's small.NovaAgg wrote:I would assume Wisconsin has to buy out the remainder of Andersen's contract (or at least a substantial portion of it). Does anyone have any info on what the buyout amount will be?
My guess based on people I have talked to and what I have read on here is that it is between $100,000 and $250,000.
I imagine that was something GA negotiated strongly for when he signed his last extension.
Re: How Much?
Forget the money. If he was only chasing the money, he would be at Cal or Colorado. How do you not see a difference between sold out 80,000+ at Camp Randall and Logan's weak attempt to muster 19k. It's the Big 10 vs. the MWC. And it's the fact that USU's biggest game of the season--at La. Tech for WAC title--was only aired on ESPN3. Sure, the money helps, too. I think there is a lot about USU that he will miss, but in most ways, not all but most, Gary made the right decision.
Re: How Much?
I do think GA had some sorty of reality check during the post-potato bowl celebration where he thought to himslef "11-2 and I'm standing in the freezing cold hoisting a damn bowl full of potatoes over my head?"KadeUSU wrote:Forget the money.
